Week 17 NFL: The seeding thread

Homefield advantage remains up for grabs in both conferences, with Carolina (14-1) leading but Arizona (13-2) still in play in the NFC and New England controlling its destiny in the AFC but Denver still in the mix.

The late start for Panthers-Bucs makes things interesting because the Cardinals are playing at the same time. The Patriots can lock up the top seed with an early win over the Dolphins, and Bengals-Ravens is early as well. The Broncos still have the most scenarios in play with the Chiefs in the division mix as well, and KC faces Oakland in a late afternoon game while Denver is hosting San Diego.

Basically, neither conference likely will be figured out before 7 p.m. Sunday.

Falcons beat Saints (guessing this is for some sort of strength of schedule tiebreaker)
Raiders beat Chiefs
Broncos beat Chargers

I think the Falcons-Saints game is for something called strength of victory, which is the sixth tiebreaker. Houston actually could have clinched the AFC South last night if Cincinnati had won, based off of it.

On a side note, I wonder what that nine-team parlay would pay out?

This is exactly the opposite of what it really is.

Seattle gets the 5 seed if they and the Packers win. Seattle gets the 6 seed if they and the Vikings win.

The Seahawks and the North runner-up would be 10-6, and the Seahawks win the tiebreaker against the Vikings and lose it against the Packers.

If the Seahawks lose earlier in the day, the winner of the SNF matchup gets the 3 seed and a matchup with Seattle, and the loser gets the 5 seed and a visit to the Redskins. Pretty sure I'd want to lose in that scenario.

I think it depends on whether or not Trent Willams (and other O-linemen) play. If so, let them and Cousins play a half. If not, throw McCoy out there with the backup linemen.

You're right. I misspoke. The 5 seed scenario is Seattle/GB wins.
