There's also a lot of reason to wonder if Jaxson Dart can become a franchise QB as currently constructed (guy who runs around like a lunatic) and if the new HC will mesh with him. I'm always wary of inherited HC-QB situations, especially for a guy like Dart who was not a high first-round pick and who was nabbed by the just-fired HC. Joe Schoen is also a complete moron, so there's a real good chance he hires a CYA HC and further screws up the draft.

I think Dart has a ton of potential, but they need a coach who can turn it into controlled chaos instead of just chaos. Save him from himself. Otherwise he's going to be out of the league in three years because he's had 25 concussions, and not because of his talent of lack thereof.

Was the Vikings winning their last five games and finishing 9-8 with a platter of day-old donkey **** at quarterback and no running game to speak of quietly one of the more amazing football feats this season?
They had some games that were bleach-your-eyes bad, more than one quarterback who was literally described as "unplayable," and still somehow had a winning record. They felt so much like a six-win team that until this morning I had no idea they got to nine.

A few divisional tidbits in the modern era (2002-):
* All four NFC North teams finished > .500. Only other time this happened: 2023 AFC North.
* The Panthers become the fifth team to win a division title with a losing record. Three of the five sub-.500 champs have been from the NFC South.
* The Panthers-Bucs-Falcons tie is the third three-way draw since the Reformation of 2002. This also occurred in the AFC West in 2011 (8-8) and the AFC East in 2002 (9-7).

Impressive to go 5-0 after being eliminated from playoff contention.

Need to fix the seedings. Let the division champs in, but then do it straight by record.

AFC:
1. Denver
7. Pittsburgh at 2. New England
6. L.A. Chargers at 3. Jacksonville
5. Buffalo at 4. Houston

NFC:
1. Seattle
7. Carolina at 2. Chicago
6. Green Bay at 3. Philadelphia
5. San Francisco at 4. L.A. Rams

Kevin O'Connell seems like he might be the rare really good football coach. Won a game a year or two ago with Josh Dobbs and a couple plays he drew up on a napkin. I suppose now we'll find out if he's good at cutting ties with sunk costs, b/c J.J. McCarthy does not seem like the answer. Kellen Moore seemed impressive this year too, b/c that Saints team had 2-15 written all over it.

I have a hard time convincing myself the dip**** duo of Daboll & Schoen saw something in Dart that 24 other teams didn't. I like watching him play, he's a ton of backyard fun, but I'm far from convinced he's a franchise guy.

That season-ending win streak was the work of Brian Flores and the defense.

Why again did the Raiders bring Brady aboard? Doing game prep for the Sunday broadcast? Scouting college players for the draft? Breaking down film to target FAs? Potential coaching replacements? Nope.

Just because Tom Brady was a great player doesn't mean he knows what he's doing as an executive, say not-so-great former players on TV who totally know what they are doing.

Pretty sure Mark Davis gave Brady a good deal on a chunk of the club just so he could be his "football guy." And I'm pretty sure I've spent as many days at Raiders HQ this season as Brady has.

Exactly. See Elway: John and the time it took him to figure things out in a front office. Got to a Super Bowl and got destroyed. They retooled everything and won it two years later.

That does seem more fair.

Also, the Steelers might have been better off going to New England than playing the Texans at home. They already beat the Patriots once. :)

If the Chargers were healthy, I'd give them a good shot to take out the Pats. But they're not healthy, because they never are.

Did Pete Carroll's dog-ass nepo coach sons also get fired yesterday?

If the moves are unsuccessful, Brady's 5% ownership will be used as a proxy for his level of involvement and influence
