Eagles kicker Tony Franklin from 26 years ago today, just before he was responsible for an epidemic of broken feet among 10-year-old boys across America.

These kinds of things happen when you hire an OC who didn't call plays with the Bengals (Taylor did) as your HC. That Brinker is just an errand boy for Strunk doesn't make this a job a prospective HC is going to want. My guess is they'll have to add a year or two to the contract - "The Tepper Penalty" just to get someone to interview.

I have never ever understood how kicking footballs with a bare foot was possible. Footballs are hard! Feet are not! I'm still gobsmacked this guy kicked a field goal once, never mind had a terrific career.

The barefoot kicker was such a weird fad. There were several others, including Franklin's successor with the Eagles Paul McFadden, and then they disappeared by the 90s. Never seen before or since, far as I know.

Rich Karlis did it while playing his entire career with the Broncos.

Apparently, there is some question of who was the last. I saw one mention of Mike Lansford, whose career ended in 1990. Others would say Jeff Wilkins, who didn't wear a shoe for part of his career. He did kick without a shoe, but his foot was heavily taped. His last kick without a shoe was in 2002.

Titans better hope they play the Steelers or the Chiefs on their opening game in the new stadium, or they’ll be the first franchise in history to debut their home with empty seats.

The Thursday night game should end up being decent despite the Bengals' weaknesses. Flacco may be ancient, but he gets the ball out quick and gives Higgins and Chase opportunities to make plays. He's going to have to get it out quick against Pittsburgh's pass rush. I was laughing at the jokes about elder abuse having Flacco play behind that offensive line, but the Bengals are much better with him than they were with Browning. Mike Tomlin knows it, which I'm sure is why he was so critical of the Browns for making the trade.

I found it very interesting that the Bengals are a decisive pick in one of the Eliminator sites I check before making my selection. Nope, got burned in the Thursday game last week. Not buying. I'll take my last strike with glee if my Raiders are somehow able to beat the Chiefs on the road. My other pick is the Bears at home vs. the Saints. Not feeling great about it, but the other options are worse.
