Can someone tell me why Rudi Johnson was released today?

Story seems to be that his hamstrings aren't holding up, therefore he's spending too much time too limited to help. Combine this with the first-round choice of Perry a few years back and Cincy feels like it's set without Rudi.

The bigger mystery is Willie Anderson, one of the few quality players that stuck around, didn't mope and didn't get down when Mike Brown was running this franchise into the ground (moreso than maybe it is today). Factor in that the Bengals got so desperate at WR that it re-signed Chris Henry, and I wonder what this franchise is doing - yes, even more than usual.

I just don't have much faith in Perry. Anderson's telling the media it's because they didn't want two high-paid players at the same position. I'm sure someone will pick him up.

It'll be interesting to see who goes after R. Johnson.

Considering that he might not be able to play for half the season, my guess is that nobody goes after Johnson. Kenny Watson will also receive carries, and he has lots of upside. They had little use for Rudi. Hamstring injuries aren't minor. It's a significant tear of a very large muscle. Sometimes, they require surgery to repair.

Yep. The hamstring has kept him off the field for much of training camp. He was out of practice until about a week ago, when it became clear he wouldn't be traded. I think he's also a little miffed that he loses goal-line carries.

Willie Anderson's leadership and attitude, along with his performance through some terrible seasons there, deserved a better fate.

I understand the concept that it's better to cut a player a year too early than a year too late. But Anderson has withstood some of the most unprofessional ignorance and stupidity in sports, and did it with dignity. Cincinnati doesn't have enough of these guys ... so of course, cutting Anderson and re-signing Chris Henry was a stroke of genius.
