For the second time today, a team passes up a field goal to go up by six with less than two minutes left and it bites them in the ass when they don't convert.
Cardinals get it at their 20 and drive down for a tying field goal in the last 90 seconds against the Jags. Headed to overtime.

And now the Cowboys forgo a go-ahead field goal to go for it on fourth down and miss.

I swear it almost seems like some of these coaches are more concerned about looking like geniuses instead of playing it safe and taking the points.

I was in the segment of the Gulf Coast that was the only part of the country subjected to Falcons-Saints. So it was definitely one of those days I'm thankful for Red Zone.

There just isn't a team you can look at and say for sure, "That's a Super Bowl team."

The Patriots and Broncos have the best records in the league. I just can't see either one as a Super Bowl champion.

The Bucs are DONE. Everyone's banged up, they can't stop anyone on defense and now Mayfield may have lost both his arms. I think Carolina can win that division just by steering the car to 8-9.

I’m definitely getting the FRAUD vibe from the Colts. Daniel Jones has exceeded (very low) expectations. And they’re not a bad team. But certainly not an upper-tier team.

They were expected to be awful, and they’ve definitely improved. So there’s that.

Colts have a really strong-looking Texans team next week. I think that game will prove a lot about both of them.

The Bucs are DONE. Everyone's banged up, they can't stop anyone on defense and now Mayfield may have lost both his arms. I think Carolina can win that division just by steering the car to 8-9.

Their saving grace might be that their schedule the rest of the way is soft — Cardinals, Dolphins, and four games within the division, where the Falcons and Saints are just as cooked as they are. And the Panthers have been inconsistent enough to make you wonder if they can get to 8-9 when they still have three games against the upper crust of the NFC West.
Either way, the Bucs and Panthers play each other in Week 16 and again in Week 18. Whoever wins those will get the right to be blasted into oblivion on wild card weekend.
And, honestly? If that winds up being the Panthers I think they'll be more than happy with it considering where they were a year ago (or even as recently as the end of September).

This Cowboys win is inexplicable in the modern age. Somebody please explain it to me in hieroglyphics or cuneiform.

It's not a season-saver per se because even if they sneak into the playoffs they'll be immediately bounced. But at least they aren't tanking.

There are teams that are bad, and then there are teams that are average or even halfway decent and just don't win.
The Raiders, Jets, Titans and Saints are bad.
The Cowboys and Cardinals aren't bad. They just don't win. They're good enough to beat anyone — or at least give them a tough time — in any given week. Yet for whatever reason they more often than not find themselves in games that come down to a couple of plays at the end, and when you're riding that 50-50 edge you're going to wind up with a 50-50 record.
