NFL Week 9 thread

Worked a long ass day today, turning stories all over the place under intense deadline pressure.

Avoid this place, Twitter, Facebook all night so I don't find out about the Bengals-Dolphins game. I think this has the potential to be the rare exciting Thursday night game.

Get home. Put my feet up. Need my "cool down" before bed.

NFL Network. Squint so I don't see any scores at the bottom of the screen before having it play from the start.

Oh wait.

So that Mrs. Ex could watch Grey's ****ing Anatomy.

According to the ESPN gamer, it's the third overtime safety in NFL history.

The others were in 1989 (Vikings over Rams) and 2004 (Bears over Titans).

That was more of a great play by the defender than a screw up by the QB, and I say that as not the biggest fan of Dalton.

Mizzou, I agree with your general point, but in fairness to commentators here and elsewhere, the Dolphins are completely schizoid. Against the Pats, they looked like a playoff team in the first half and like the Jaguars on Oxy in the second.

I suspect Bradley sticks around for another season. I think everyone knows that Gene Smith should have been fired as GM at the same time Jack Del Rio was let go so they are in year one of an entirely new regime. If Bradley is fired, that doesn't look good for the GM, who just hired him last year.

Schiano is different because he is in his second year and, if I am not mistaken, he's not the first hire by the Bucs' current GM. So the Bucs' GM (his name escapes me) could have his job in jeopardy after the season.

(Seriously, for all the talk about coaches on the hot seat, we should be talking a lot about the GMs, because when they make the personnel decisions, that includes deciding who is the head coach.)

Yeah, really. They had Del Rio, than an interim guy in 2011, then Mularkey last year and now Bradley. Gotta give a guy time to really put a system in place and get players to play it.

This is what concerns me about the Kansas City situation. Too many teams around the league are going to look at them and thing "Aw, see, they change coaches and immediately the problem is solved." So they fire the current coach. Not quite that simple.

A couple weeks ahead ... the Chiefs-Broncos game flexed to Sunday night on Nov. 17, bumping Packers-Giants to the late afternoon spot.

Apparently CBS didn't/couldn't product that one, or they may have protected the second matchup.
