NFL Week 17

Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

Eagles at Redskins, Bengals at Steelers, Browns at Ravens, Raiders at Chiefs and Bears at Vikings were all pushed back from 1 p.m. to 4:25 p.m.

I was a little surprised that they moved all the games that will decide playoff berths. I think the only one of the early games that matters at all are the Patriots and Texans jockeying for seeding in the AFC.

Sunday night should be fun. The winner of Colts-Titans gers the sixth seed. The loser goes home. The Ravens are ahead of both, but either they win and take the North or lose and go home. Technically, a tie in either Browns-Ravens or Colts-Titans could allow both the Steelers and Ravens to get in, but I can't imagine that happening.

I can't believe I'm expressing confidence in the Cleveland Browns, but I don't think they should be a six-point dog to the Baltimore Ravens right now.

It seems about right to me. The Ravens looked great in beating the Chargers. They won four of their last five, and the loss took some serious Mahomes magic. The Browns are also going to be without Denzel Ward, who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie this season. He was diagnosed with a concussion after last week's game. That is is second concussion in less than a month, so it would make no sense to play him even if he was somehow cleared in time.

The Titans will be missing Mariota, yes...but the loss of one Jurrell Casey, the most underrated defensive player in football, is a killer for their playoff hopes.

The Giants will win this one. The Cowboys are resting their starters and with four quarters of meaningless garbage time, Manning will shine.

I tend to agree. I think Baltimore wins the game though, so fire up the 6-pt teasers.

And maybe more. If Texans lose (a long shot), Colts win division if they beat Titans. Titans would need a couple more things to happen to win division.

I feel like an idiot for not knowing this, but how would the 11-5 Patriots be the No. 2 seed over the 12-4 Chargers? Is it because the top two seeds can’t come from the same vidision?

Chargers theoretically will be wild cards. Wild cards can't get top four seeds.

I forgot about that. I was just thinking of the appeal of a game that the winner gets in the playoffs and the loser is out.

Eh, guess they won't follow the baseball model with all final games kicking off at 3 p.m. EST.

They'd be giving up either the 1:00 or 4:00 window.
Either is one of the highest rated programs of the week.

Slap-ass shows up 45 minutes late for a major team function during a tight holiday week:

Matt Patricia consistently late to team meetings, ex-Detroit Lion says

Of course some of the slap-asses are saying, "who cares, who gives a ****, the only people that really affects is beat writers and **** the media, etc etc," but of course the next question is, what was he scheduled to do AFTER the news conference -- film review, game planning, practice, yadda yadda ---because now THAT'S all been pushed back by 45 minutes, too.

But that's how you get to 5-10.

No wild card can be higher than a No. 5 seed. The four division winners get those, then the wild cards at Nos. 5 and 6.

Chargers should be factors. Good ... will be watching Philip Rivers since Panthers decided to quit after getting smashed by Pittsburgh.

Oh yeah, speaking of the Panthers ... Taylor Heinicke on IR. Kyle Allen to start. In the Dome. Against a team with Drew Brees. Good luck ...

Patricia is more a fraud than all of the rotten berries that have fallen from the Belichick coaching tree.
I used to think Marty Mornhinweg was the biggest clown I ever saw leading an NFL team.
At least he accomplished something on his own as an assistant.
