I'm a little of both. I respect his ability. I think he is a very good coach. I also think it may be time to move on.
Do I hope he proves me wrong with a miraculous run that ends with a Super Bowl victory? Of course I do. I just don't think it can happen with this team.
That doesn't mean I'm not impressed with what he did last night. His Steelers went into that game with their fourth-string left tackle. They were missing three defensive starters, including T.J. Watt. They lost their starting left guard and Watt's replacement during the game. They were also facing an opponent that had won four in a row with the kind of running game to take advantage of the Steelers' weakness in that area.
Rodgers deserves a lot of credit for the Steelers overcoming all that, but so does Tomlin. It's rare to see an NFL head coach so clearly and so badly outclass his opponent, but last night, Tomlin showed why he is headed for a gold jacket and McDaniel is headed for unemployment.
