That's idiotic. I know $300M for a DH looks bad but 3B is too valuable to have just a guy there especially when you've got a Gold Glover available. I thought the Bosox were the anti-Yankees, no? This is A-Rod/Jeter all over again (kinda).

Yoshida is their DH. He isn't a star, but he is a solid hitter. He only played one game in the field in 2024, so the only option would be to move Devers to first, but they don't want to sit Casas. They had options at second. The plan had been to have young veteran Vaughn Grissom compete with Kristian Campbell, one of the top prospects in baseball. They have a few of those. Roman Anthony is probably going to force his way into the outfield at some point this season, too.

The best option would probably be to trade Yoshida, but I'm not sure what the market would be for him.

Two Tommy John surgeries, though, right? I can see where he'd want to get the small bag and hope he can stay healthy enough to make the really big money (right after the epic lockout results in a salary cap being implemented).

I think Stanton is oddly underrated--his regular season injuries overshadow how good he's been in the playoffs--but any talk about him as a potential HOFer b/c he's going to end up the most prolific home run hitter of his generation is insane. He'd need 600 HRs given his DH-only status, but there's no guarantee he even gets to 500 HRs (he's 71 homers shy of 500 with only three years left on his deal). If he was a free agent last winter, he'd probably still be looking for a job.

Yes, it is, but at least Jeter had the sense to voice his opinions quietly. Devers did not, refusing to move from third base, which is a bad look. At least Jeter was decent at shortstop, though Rodriguez was better. I didn't realize Devers had led the American League in errors at third base every season since 2018. I know Gold Gloves can be a joke sometimes, but Bregman is still a good defender.

This is probably a moot point, as Bregman is going to play second and then opt out after this season, so there's plenty of time to figure out if/how they're going to move Bregman to third and Devers elsewhere. But this isn't the first time Devers hasn't acted like a franchise player.

I don't doubt it. I don't remember others, but given his comments on this issue, he doesn't come across as a team-first guy. I assume they are planning for that alignment this year with Kristian Campbell taking over second base next season.

Miguel Rojas gave his No. 11 to Roki Sasaki and didn't ask for anything. It's rare for a veteran to give up a number to a rookie.
Rojas is going back to 72 — the number he wore as a rookie with the Dodgers in 2014.

Only if he has a good season and thinks he'll make more. If anyone else thought that was likely, they would have signed him this season.
