MLB 2025 Spring Training Thread

I don't know about you, Mile High, but I don't think I've ever been so unethusiastic about the start of a season as I am this year. Some of it is I'm getting less enchanted with how the game is played these days, some is I'm not taking that weeklong trip to Arizona with my dad and uncle to see some games, but mostly it's dreading more uninspired play and organizational incompetence from my team, and knowing that, living in SoCal, I have to go through another year of everybody fellating the Dodgers.

I'm right there with you -- although don't have to live in SoCal to deal with all the Dodgers bull****. I saw the Angels last week in Arizona. Not good. At all. we'll see if Trout can last until Memorial Day.

For all the grief athletes get about being selfish pricks, there are times when that is most definitely not true. I love these videos when the guy is told he's going to the majors.

A guy from my alma mater who labored in the minors for a long time is making the Brewers' opening-day roster. I met him a long time ago out here when he was playing summer ball. Great kid then, hope he still is now; he probably is, seven years in the minors humbles you.

Going to be in Denver over Memorial Day weekend and we're going to the Yankees-Rox on Friday night and Sunday. Really looking forward to it. The Rox suck but Coors is such a great place, the neighborhood shines, we're going to hit the National Ballpark Museum, and relive my youth by having a Utica Club or two at Jackson's, all within walking distance of Micro Jr.'s crib.

Then we get home, our summer league wood bat league team starts up and I'll be making money again. Good times!

The Angels released outfielder Mickey Moniak, a former No. 1 overall pick in the MLB draft. Jo Adell to start in center field, Kyren Paris makes the team.

The Angels have released center fielder Mickey Moniak, in a surprise move just days before the season started.

Moniak was a former No. 1 overall pick by the Phillies in 2016, and was traded to the Angels in 2022, as part of the Noah Syndergaard deal.

Moniak has struggled to live up to that former top prospect status, posting just 0.9 WAR over his five seasons in the leagues. He found his footing in 2023, recording an .802 OPS, while hitting 14 home runs, seemingly getting his career on track.

Moniak just signed with Colorado.

the thing about Rendon is you didn't see this coming. Six of his first eight seasons are normal and his rookie season he was caked up after three weeks so his number is short.

I remember Rendon being quite injury-prone on his way up. He had 133 and 127 ABs in his first two pro seasons. I know he was hurt half the time in Harrisburg. What's inexplicable is that he was essentially an iron man for five seasons in D.C. before completely falling apart when the Angels signed him.
