I think I heard an interview in which IKF was asked about his short leadoff. (And I think there was another play this postseason that the same thing happened.) He said he was doing what the coaches instructed him to do. I don't buy that. It's fundamental that the runner can lead off the base about the same distance as the third baseman is away from the base. It's the coach's job to yell at him to get back if the third baseman ducks in for a pickoff attempt.

Doesn't make a dime's worth of difference if IKF has a decent lead, a decent secondary lead, and runs through the base. He beats the throw by 2-3 steps.

He can't be doubled off if Muncy can't beat him to the bag.

Sure he can because your first step is almost always forward if you are going on contact.

Doesn't matter if his first step is jumping 15 feet in the air, he can't be doubled up if Muncy can't beat him back to the bag.
