Well, it would help if the thread-starter actually got his facts right.

Nixon announced to the nation on the night of Aug. 8 that he was resigning. It didn't take effect officially until the next day, however, and Ford was sworn in just after noon on Aug. 9.

Yup. I just corrected that in the post above before I saw your response.

I remember well because I was a paper boy delivering the p.m. paper (remember those? ) and the huge headline for Aug. 9 paper was Ford Sworn In. I kept a copy for many years but got rid of it in one of my seven or eight moves since then.

I disagree. You've got a lot of people for whatever reason, want to create problems. It's usually the same ones - and I won't name the posters - over and over again. There's a guy who pretends to be a moderator who instigates; there's another wiseacre who practices one liners; look, let's keep it on what the post is about, Nixon stepping down.
