Speaking of Pete, has any other coach been fired twice after just one year in the gig? What weird bookends to a decent career, which raises the question how much of that Super Bowl was about Russell Wilson and LoB.

So this means Rodgers is absolutely coming back……right?

Not necessarily, though I do think this is about their need at quarterback. McCarthy wasn't there the year the Packers drafted Rodgers, but he oversaw his development into a Hall of Famer. He has experience working with some good quarterbacks.

I don't agree with the choice. I think they could be settling for being mired in the same mediocrity as the last decade or so under Tomlin. I'm not talking about when they last won a playoff game. The last team they had that was a real contender was 2017. That team had an offense as good as any in the NFL and a defense that was good enough to hang with the top contenders. Then they lost Ryan Shazier, and the defense fell apart. They also lost home-field advantage due to a ...dubious...replay reversal of a late touchdown against the Patriots. They haven't felt like a real championship contender since, not even the team that started 11-0 in 2020.

I do see the appeal of McCarthy. He is a good coach. The offense should be better with him there, even if they only have a bridge option at quarterback. I'm just not sure he is the guy to get them back to the point of being more than a one-and-done in the playoffs kind of team.

Isn't that what they want though? To never bottom out and always be in the mix for nine or 10 wins and a playoff game? It's sort of admirable they're not tanking, b/c there are no guarantees they'll find their QB. But it is a purgatory.
