Word is that they gave Steven Pearl a five year contract. That might be questionable wisdom.

He’s had his hand in things a little more than a workaday assistant so it isn’t a complete reach. Had Bruce Almighty retired in April, sonny boy was likely getting the job anyway. But it is impossible for Daddy not to leave a slime trail.

Will Steven Pearl become an interim senator in 8 years?

I'm reminded of how Dean Smith timed his retirement so Bill Guthridge could get the job. Except the Pearls are worse.
Bill Guthridge was qualified. Had the guts to disagree with Dean when necessary. Was willing to be the heavy when discipline was in order. Great man.
The younger Pearl’s only qualification appears to be his birth certificate.
I hope he isn’t as effective a cheater as his dad was.

Same could be said whey Joey Meyer replaced Ray Meyer at DePaul. But this one ...

Retiring with as many national championships as I have
And three more NCAA investigations than you'll have.
He was a bad guy. And that was before he exposed himself as a Trumpist who said American Jews who vote for Harris are neither American nor Jewish.
There were many wonderful things about my alma mater's 2019 NCAA championship. Among them was a miraculous win over Pearl, last seen blowing a gasket over an accurate call. Know what? Sometimes, the good guy wins and the bad guy suffers.

Well timed, both to ensure the kid gets his job and to run for the Senate seat.another.ex-coach is vacating.

2025-26 men's NCAA basketball coaching hot seat, retirement guide

Story says UNC could whack Hubert Davis, whose contract runs through 2029-30, for $5 million. Seems like a low number. Especially considering these reported details:
Fred Hoiberg (2028-29): $13.5 million
Steve Pikiell (2030-31): > $20 million
Jerome Tang (2029-30): $13 million
Matt McMahon (2028-29): $6.5 million
Jeff Capel (2029-30): “Well into 8 figures.” Terrible phrase. Could be construed to mean > $50 million if taken literally. Probably means > $10 million.

Davis, who won’t get fired, still needs a better deal. Why isn’t his guaranteed cash on par with these others’ parachutes?

Because there was not a lot of competition for his services at the time he was anointed Roy’s heir to the throne. If he had balked at the numbers he probably was looking at coaching in the SoCon.
