NFL Week 18

Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

I wondered this the other night. At what point do they decide it's a better idea to find a more durable, less spectacular and much less expensive quarterback? They're doing the right thing by backing up Jackson with a mobile QB, but Huntley's not even in Jackson's universe (not many are) and this is two straight seasons that might be sunk b/c of it. I mean, this team won with the statue of Joe Flacco at QB, for crying out loud. Why can't they win with a pocket passer again?
Depends on the pocket passer. I imagine the Jets would trade Flacco back for Jackson.

Joe Flacco played out of his mind during that Super Bowl run.

He has a howitzer on his shoulder and was as accurate as Greg Maddux in that 4-5 game span.

He might not always be elite, but during that run, he was a level above elite.

All very true. He was the football equivalent of Joe Hardy in "Damn Yankees."

We're at the point where the NFL needs to give a yea or nay on this week's games, no?

The discussion around Lamar Jackson will never stop being strange to me.

Dude is 25 years old and a former MVP at QB, when the list of truly elite QBs in the league is, what, 5 or 6? He played virtually every game his first three seasons but missed time last year and again this year. (And his injury is a PCL sprain from being sacked. The whole "running QB is fragile" thing doesn't really apply.)

Baltimore will pay through the nose to keep him, as they should.

Probably, but it's tough to see them dropping a $250 mil contract on him this year. Two years of franchise tags, then they can decide. If he spends as much time sitting out as he has this year and last, it's tough to imagine a long-term guaranteed deal.

Agreed. I would franchise him at least once and see if he can hold up physically and improve as a passer next season.

The Bills began holding positional team meetings yesterday, so they are preparing to play. Much talk the game might be played Monday, not Sunday.

I think that would be reasonable, perhaps with the league ensuring that they would play the following Sunday if they don't get the bye.

That shouldn't be an issue.

I think you can pencil in the 5-4 AFC game to the early slot on Saturday. Dallas-Tampa will be the Saturday night game. Fox will probably protect a Green Bay-San Fran matchup for late afternoon Sunday. Buffalo would be extremely attractive for the Sunday night game. That leaves Minnesota-Giants for early Sunday and the Bengals-whoever on Monday night. Just speculatin', of course.

Sean Taylor was murdered in his home with a machete and Washington played a few days later.
Not even close to the same thing. I get it, your Steelers need them to play and beat the Patriots. I hope your entertainment is not ruined this weekend.

Within the strict for good reasons parameters of releasing medical information, I believe the Bills and Hamlin's family and friends have done their best to keep the public informed.

From what I've found, it's NBC at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, then CBS at 8:15 p.m.

Sunday goes Fox at 1 p.m., CBS at 4:30 p.m. and NBC at 8:15 p.m.

ABC/ESPN on Monday at 8:15 p.m.

Divisional is CBS at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, then Fox at 8:15 p.m. Sunday goes NBC at 3 p.m., then CBS at 6:30 p.m.

Conference championships is CBS at 3 p.m., then Fox at 6:30 p.m., which is odd since CBS/AFC had the early slot last year and the 6:30 p.m. game is more coveted/usually higher rated.

Super Bowl is on Fox at 6:30 p.m.

That was the exact same broadcast lineup as last year. San Fran-Dallas was on CBS on Sunday afternoon, so I think that'll stay the same. Doesn't necessarily have to be an AFC game. So maybe Cincinnati on Saturday night, Dallas-Tampa on Sunday night and Buffalo on Monday night?

I'd assume that if Buffalo is in the wild card round they'd get the last game, especially if this week's game is moved back a day.

They tend to move things around, so maybe the sites I've seen it on are just reposting last year's identical schedule. Like the AFC and NFC title games have usually rotated and the AFC went first last year. We'll find out Sunday night.

I see you are showing off your mind reading powers again (and your disdain for anything or anybody related to the Steelers.)

I got into this discussion with another Steelers fan last night. We both agreed that if the Bills have to forfeit because too many of the players just can't go, we get it even if it possibly screws the Steelers. We agreed that the Steelers would likely accept such an outcome just as they accepted previous circumstances that screwed them over, like COVID-related scheduling in 2020. Art Rooney II is not Robert Kraft. He's not going to claim he supports the league, then change his mind and lose his **** if a league decision doesn't go the way he wants. (See Brady's suspension).

I could see the Dolphins raising a stink. They also need the Patriots to lose to have a shot.

I agree with you that the Taylor situation was different. It is an entirely different matter for players to see their teammate needing CPR on the field during a game.

Has nothing to do with your precious team, it’s that particular poster and his thought process.

This sums it up nicely.

Your post spoke to someone else's biases. I felt it was relevant to point out how yours likely influenced your response to Scout just as they are influencing your response to me.
