Yeah, there's no qualification in boxing, no draft process etc. which is why it attracts novelties like Paul, Mark Gastineau, Too Tall Jones and others who don't understand you don't play boxing. As the great Tex Cobb said, "If you screw up in tennis is 0-15, screw up in boxing and you get your ass handed to you" as Jake Paul found out very painfully the other night.
 
I watched that fight at a house with some friends and the female contingent in the house that were just hanging out...,They are now major Anthony Joshua fans and they are spreading the word to every book club they are part of.

If it leads to a $100M payday against Tyson Fury. All the better for him.

Paul was never going to win, that was the narrative on the broadcast from the start, and he clearly didn't even try and do anything but run but eventually even his legs gave out and he started hitting the deck. To me that was nothing more than a glorified sparring session for AJ.

The card was a dud, I'm not a fan of women's boxing but kudos to Paul for giving them the platforms that he does. The Silva-Woodley thing was embarrassing.

The biggest winner out of the Jake Paul boxing cosplay outside of him, has been Amanda Serrano. She's made millions through his promotion, which, to his credit, has been on point with her. They have treated her like a star, like someone fans should watch and appreciate. They have given the spotlight to her and Katie Taylor to fill a house and it got done. So for that I give Jake Paul a lot of credit.

Otherwise, once I remembered Joshua hadn't fought in 18 months and his last fight was getting wrecked by Daniel Dubois, I thought this was going to be more like McGregor-Mayweather than Joshua just starching Francis Ngannou because the latter wanted to fight.

Joshua was going to treat it like a sparring session and then they had a ring the size of a house and Jake Paul was going to run for a few rounds until he got completed gassed.

All that being said, Joshua never hit that kid with any sort of his full power. If he did, that right hook would have done a lot more than broken his jaw.

Spot on that. For all the issues with the Tyson fight - Netflix streaming problems, absolutely dreadful main event - Serrano and Taylor tore the house down and they were the talk of the card as they should have been. I would have never seen them fight if it wasn't for Jake Paul giving them that spot.

Joshua seemed rusty which is understandable, Paul was definitely not going to stand and trade with him. He did nothing in the first round, I gave Paul the round because he at least gave the impression he was busier. But once he got rolling and Paul gassed out the ending was a matter of when, not if. Against a real opponent, Joshua is probably loading up a left hook to follow that bomb of a right but he knew he wouldn't need any more than that.

My old man was an amateur boxer as a teenager in Scotland and he fought in the British Army and he said if you found yourself in there with a guy who really knew what he was doing he could miss you with a punch and the air would knock you over. Jake Paul found that out the hard way.
 
Dana White and the Saudis are looking to bring the UFC’s business model to boxing. I haven’t seen any of the Zuffa cards yet because I don’t have Paramount Plus so I can’t really say what they’ve been like.
I imagine a lot of casual fans regard MMA as being more on-the-level than boxing and one of the reasons is that the sport doesn’t have all the different sanctioning bodies and there’s one organization that is synonymous with the sport and holds a near monopoly on its best athletes.
In reality, all MMA did was cut out the middle men that were the sanctioning bodies. The promoter and the sanctioning body are the same entity.
To make that business model possible Zuffa is pushing to change or replace the Ali Act and it looks like those efforts will be successful.
Like everyone else I do think boxing would be better with one universally recognized world champion in each weight class and I think everyone in boxing should be working toward that objective. The way Zuffa wants to do it, with one promoter having a monopoly on all the true world championships and top boxers, may be the only way to do it.
It may be good for the fans and potential fans but I don’t see it being too good for boxers.
I’ve always been skeptical of anyone who comes into boxing, saying all the right things about how they’re going to revolutionize and clean up the sport. Too many times I’ve seen promoters and sanctioning bodies start off saying they’re going to be so much different and better than everyone else and they ended up being just as bad if not worse.

I haven't seen any of those Zuffa cards either but they haven't been getting raves online from those who have.
 
Don't trust anything Dana White touches. Yes, he's responsible for the UFC's rise, but he's also responsible for its current fall.

What he and his partners want to do to the Ali Act is going to ruin so many sports at the same time.
 
Nobody who wants to clean up boxing has ever given a **** about the fighters who have been getting ****ed over since The Great John L. was fighting on barges.
 
Tyson Fury looked fine in his comeback fight on Saturday, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pro fighter as easy to hit as Makhmudov.

Also, Anthony Joshua looked legit pissed when Fury cut a WWE promo on him after the fight. He even said as much in his interview — that it was kind of a **** move after Fury spent a decade ducking him. Not to mention the personal **** Joshua is going through.
 
Francis Ngannou had a better game plan against Fury than Makhmudov did. He was a tough guy to look good against but once Fury shook off the ring rust after the first couple rounds it was easy going.

The undercard was underwhelming, Connor Benn didn't prove any skeptics wrong by going the distance to beat the shell of Regis Prograis. Richard Riakporhe is a promising heavyweight prospect (dynamite jab) but his opponent in that British title fight was little competition. Best Netflix fight was the first one between Justus Huni and Frazer Clarke.
 
Classic bull**** hometown decision for Stephanie Han in her rematch with Holly Holm last night. I had it 97-93 for Holm who was busier and landed far more clean shots, she couldn't miss with her straight left.
 
Saturday's fight between Chris Billam-Smith and Ryan Rozicki flew under the radar since it was on in the afternoon from the UK and was a 10-round non-title fight in the often ignored cruiserweight division. It was a Zuffa promotion on Paramount Plus up here but if it's still available anywhere it's worth watching. This was just violent, an absolute brawl that wouldn't have been out of place on a barge in the late 1800s.
