Neither does Roethlisberger, but you are correct.

The officials just blew another one. Vance McDonald did not have control of the ball before he went out of the back of the end zone on that touchdown pass from Roethlisberger. That said, with a little help from that call, the Steelers are up, 38-14, and Roethlisberger has 18 completions in 20 attempts for 289 yards and three touchdowns with 8:18 remaining in the third quarter.

Maybe he does get those calls. But I agree with it.

Roethlisberger's night is over early in the fourth quarter. He completed 22 of 25 for 329 yards and five touchdowns. Is the Panthers' defense that bad?

This is by far the best the Steelers have looked all season offensively or defensively. The score won't show how good the defense was after a slow start. The pass rush was all over Newton all night.

The only downer is Conner going to the locker room to be checked for a concussion.

I get why Reid was tossed. He didn't give Ben's head anywhere to go on that play. At least, FWIW - and I can understand those who support the Steelers and Roethlisberger who will not accept it - that Reid apologized.

But I also agree that the call has been inconsistent. Cam Newton has been hit, and the usual narrative is "he's a running back when he's not dropping back and looking to throw" or simply "he's fair game," at least within reason. Ben was clearly down the field and was running downfield.

Can't wait to see some people zoom in on Reid because of his personal stance regarding the anthem and their attempts to link the issues ...

The thing is, Roethlisberger is often in the same situation as Newton, not getting those types of calls.

I just wanted feedback because I was wondering how much my bias as a Steelers fan was affecting my judgement on the play. The funny thing is, I had a few people get angry with me on another message board for questioning that and arguing that the officials blew the call on the McDonald touchdown. Maybe I'm not such a fan after all?

I don't watch Newton enough to be sure of the comparison. I do watch Roethlisberger enough to say he takes more uncalled hits that aren't called than he should.

I doubt you see enough of both guys to be sure.

I remember that one, but that is also one game out of two careers. Both guys take more than their share of hits that should be called, but aren't. Neither of us has seen enough of both to be sure how that comparison truly stacks up.

The only thing that bothered me about Reid's ejection is that once a defender is in the air --- and you can debate whether flying at someone is a proper and safe technique --- he loses a lot of control over how and where he can hit a moving offensive player.
