True, but looking at the state of Florida for the 2020 class. The top six players in the state are committed elsewhere. The No. 7 player is committed to Florida State. Then it drops down to 18.

Truth is why would any player, regardless of ranking, sign up to play for a guy who is under .500 as a P5 coach? I know it was only one season but he didn’t exactly light the world on fire at Oregon and he had one 10-win season at USF before UCF became UCF.

Explain Michigan then. Another school that has a huge subscriber base. Their only competition was Ohio State for a number of years. Same story. Top 15 ranked classes and they haven't won the Big 10 since 2003.

How about the fact that half of these people analyzing recruits worked at a Fotomat and have zero idea what they're looking at. They just look at a kid's offer sheet and 40 time and toss a star ranking on them.

And yet in aggregate, those rankings are incredibly predictive. Maybe they have zero idea and just use offers, but apparently that’s a pretty decent tool.

I get it about Taggart. He was incompetent. But how does FSU fire him and UCLA and Nebraska keep their two horrid hires?

Scott Frost is going to get as much rope at Nebraska as any coach will in this era at any place that (rightly or wrongly) considers itself a premier job.

A few bad hires and a rough last 15-20 years has even the most delusional Huskers worried they’ll never be able to climb back up the CFB world, so I think they’re a little beyond the “we absolutely must have an immediate fix!!” stage. And they were all so convinced 14 months ago Frost was the golden ticket, and he’s a beloved hometown hero...

He’ll get at least three years and if next year is anything but a complete, flaming disaster he’ll get at least four, IMO. They NEED him, in particular, to work out and I wonder if it’ll be the rare case these days where they’ll be slow to accept he won’t, if he doesn’t.

It actually wasn't that rough. Pelini won 10 games three times and nine games four times. They finished ranked six times in eight years. Husker fans need to get over themselves. "Doctor" Tom isn't coming back to bring in boatloads of LA kids with questionable backgrounds any longer.

Of course, but rough by “compete for the title every other year” standards.

Nebraska is a fascinating example of a program sliding out of prominence. You look at the big dogs now and think “no way that ever changes. It’ll be Bama/LSU/Clemson forever.” Heck, maybe it will, but it’d have been easy to say the same about Nebraska in 1997. Pelini is a perfect part of the story. He was pretty solid (asshole, but solid). They’d do anything to get those kind of results today, or the Solich results. If Frost were there 20 years ago with these results, he’d have been fired after one season.

I’m sure everyone knows all this, but I’m excited to watch this continue to unfold.
