Five days later and there is no update. I did see one report that he has no damage to his UCL and the second opinion is meant to confirm their treatment plan, but I'm not sure I trust the source.

How far did they send him for the second opinion? Is it in California and they sent him by bus?

Sadly, I can't remember the last time "elbow discomfort" has been reported and it ends happily.

The bus was too expensive. He hitchhiked, using his left arm.

He wasn't posting about McClanahan. He was responding to a post of mine about Jared Jones.

There is finally an update on Jones. He does not have ligament damage, but he will be shut down for six weeks. Sounds like they are hoping he will be back sometime in June.

The Angels have released center fielder Mickey Moniak, in a surprise move just days before the season started.

Moniak was a former No. 1 overall pick by the Phillies in 2016, and was traded to the Angels in 2022, as part of the Noah Syndergaard deal.

Moniak has struggled to live up to that former top prospect status, posting just 0.9 WAR over his five seasons in the leagues. He found his footing in 2023, recording an .802 OPS, while hitting 14 home runs, seemingly getting his career on track.

Last week my neighbor asked me about the Angels. I had to think for a second, then I said, well, they don't know who is going to start at third base, they don't know who's going to start at shortstop, they don't know who's going to start at second base. That three-fourths of the infield. At that time, they didn't know who was going to start in center field. Now they do, but it's still uncertain if they picked the right guy.

For all the grief athletes get about being selfish pricks, there are times when that is most definitely not true. I love these videos when the guy is told he's going to the majors.

A guy from my alma mater who labored in the minors for a long time is making the Brewers' opening-day roster. I met him a long time ago out here when he was playing summer ball. Great kid then, hope he still is now; he probably is, seven years in the minors humbles you.

He also had a batting average on balls in play of .397 while walking 10 times to go with 113 strikeouts in 323 plate appearances in 2023.

I don't know about you, Mile High, but I don't think I've ever been so unethusiastic about the start of a season as I am this year. Some of it is I'm getting less enchanted with how the game is played these days, some is I'm not taking that weeklong trip to Arizona with my dad and uncle to see some games, but mostly it's dreading more uninspired play and organizational incompetence from my team, and knowing that, living in SoCal, I have to go through another year of everybody fellating the Dodgers.

Jay Groome was a possible No. 1 pick from New Jersey, but he changed his college commitment from Vanderbilt to a junior college, scared teams off with high bonus demands and fell to Boston at No. 12. He blew out his elbow two years later, was traded to San Diego in 2022 and got himself suspended for gambling last June. Riley Pint, the No. 4 pick by Colorado, retired in 2021 because he had the yips, un-retired nine months later and is now in the Cleveland organization. Alex Kiriloff, the No. 15 pick by Minnesota, had some success with the Twins, but retired in October partly because he had TJ surgery, two right wrist surgeries and right shoulder surgery all within a six-year span.

Have to go into the Compensation Round to find an All-Star in Cole Ragans and Will Smith, along with Bryan Reynolds, Pete Alonso and Bo Bichette in the second round.
