Bart's a slacker. Lisa's doing something brilliant. Homer is fatter and dumber. Marge maintains well. And Maggie apparently talks an awful lot, but someone always keeps her from speaking on camera.

At least that's way all the other future Simpsons episodes go.

Great reminder of how great In Living Color was in its day. It completely stole SNL's mojo, and SNL has only recovered to the point where it's 35 minutes of funny in a 90-minute package, rather than the 20 minutes it was for much of the 1990s.

Did they do more than one?

Four, I think. There was Lisa's wedding, an episode where Bart lived in Springfield Elementary after it was turned into cheap apartments, one where Lisa was president of the United States and Bart was living with Ralph, and one that had a cameo from Bender. They all followed the same gameplan.

Really? Every network has aired a ton of garbage. And Fox has aired some pretty quality stuff, too. Just like ABC, NBC and CBS. I have no idea what you call the CW these days. Half a network? C? or W?

Respectfully disagree, Care. Fox has aired a ton more trash than the Big Three and CW ever have, especially in its early years. The network seems to
have grown up, though.

The network still has an image issue. There are times I look at a show and go "Wow... great premise... great cast... how the hell did it end up on Fox?" lol

Still, for a network that gave us 24, can't be all bad.

Oh, I agree that Fox aired an awesome amount of **** in the early days, but I think it's pretty much on par with the other networks these days. It was/is the number one network in prime for the big demos for a few years running... (not sure if it still is)

Murdoch has always been smart enough to go where others didn't - he understands that there is money to be made going downmarket (Temptation Island, Lie Detector, Joe Millionaire), or younger. Fox saw the TV audience fragmenting before the big three and grabbed for the audience most advertiser friendly.

Still remember when Fox got the NFC, all the speculation was is Bart Simpson would be in the booth. Then they put up the score box and it was revolutionary!

Let's not forget that it was relatively easier for Fox to do all this because it wasn't - and still isn't - a 'network' like the other 3.

It's 3 hours of prime time programming 5 nights a week. No mornings. No late night. News is a separate cable entity. Sports is separate, and intrudes on the platform only when in season.

Sort of a network, sort of not a network.

It's 3 hours of prime time programming 5 nights a week. No mornings. No late night. News is a separate cable entity. Sports is separate, and intrudes on the platform only when in season.

Sort of a network, sort of not a network.

Actually, only 2 hours on weeknights. FOX affiliates do their local news at 10 ET instead of 11.

How the hell was George C. Scott ever persuaded to do a TV series? I remember the first season having a romcom called Duets. Not ever sure it lasted more than one season. And someone mentioned Whoops earlier. I watched it because it had the guy who made the Mason Capwell character on Santa Barbara famous. Whatta bomb; killed Lane Davies' career. And there was some horrible, short-lived series that had the Fonz as a Rush Limbaugh-type radio guy. Not to mention that craptastic series with Brad Garrett and Joely Fisher that somehow lasted 3-4 seasons.

In Living Color was a favorite of mine, but it's incredible how poorly it holds up. Plus, at the time I didn't realize how much they trotted out the same characters over and over and over - Homie the Clown, Fire Marshall Bill, Men on..., etc.

I think 90s era SNL holds up much better IMO.

And Fox does have programming seven nights a week. It's the CW that only does five. And I don't think the CW would bother with Friday nights if it didn't have to.

I loved how The Simpsons mocked Fox for emphasizing Family Guy over it. Bart ******* how the family has been on Fox longer than anyone yet has the table by the restrooms and kitchen.

Fox is complete ****, and the irony is their news network appeals to bible thumping morons while their prime time network made it cool to air offensive stuff in prime time, but it's accidentally put on some pretty damn good shows.

I'd say Fox goes where the money is, where there is opportunity. If Murdoch didn't create a right-skewing cable news network, someone else would have. Same goes for the broadcast network.
It doesn't matter if your money comes from high-brow Emmy winners or low-rent reality garbage - it spends the same.
