Penn State should do what it takes to keep Allen, especially because Franklin is the guy who will bail for a better job if one becomes available. Dabo ain't going nowhere.

Jimbo Franklin's last contract, which I want to say was signed in 2021, was for 10 years at around $8 million, all guaranteed. By my calculations, he has about seven more years on it. No one is paying $56 million to buyout the contract of someone who almost wins things.

I could see him considering an NFL job. Matt Rhule got hired by someone, ffs. Given where he sits in the college pecking order and the unlikelihood that Penn State ever becomes a top-5 program, he might want to get out while the getting’s good.

Bob Nielson retires from South Dakota. Got them to 11-3 and then hung it up.

In Nielson We Trust

He’s put in several years of work as a college assistant, so not a meme hire.

By all accounts a good assistant and recruiter who, like you said, has paid his dues for about 15 years. He had a bad season as an XFL head coach, but we won't hold that against him.
That said, he's pushing a boulder up Mount Everest trying to win at Valley. It's probably one of the five worst Division I athletics programs, top to bottom, in the entire country and there's not the same super-passionate fan base like what Deion tapped into at Jackson State. The NIL program, if there is one, probably consists of a $25 gift card to the Tractor Supply over in Greenville. Getting them above .500 — something they haven't done since going 6-5 in 2006 — would be a monumental achievement that would deserve every coach of the year award that exists.
Glad to see him getting an opportunity to run his own program. Hopefully it won't leave a stain on him if he goes 4-18 over the next two years.

He was on Marty Smith’s podcast years ago and he… sounded interesting.

West Alabama is actually a respectable D-II program, too. Made the playoffs last season and has produced a couple of NFL players (Tyreek Hill and Malcolm Butler) in the not-too-distant past.

The Tractor Supply in Greenwood is much closer. Just sayin'.

A lot of smoke billowing out of Bloomington, Ind. this afternoon.
I heard that too. Really it’s just a matter of time. A couple of Sundays ago he botched an end of game scenario in the most spectacular ways. He couldn’t make up his mind on a sub and had a couple of different guys going back and forth. The crowd alternates between booing and cheering like they were trying to help a Price Is Right contestant.

Bowling Green coach Scot Loeffler resigns, off to be the QB coach for the Eagles.

Seems like a decent MAC job, they have had some success and future big-time coaches (Meyer, Dave Clawson) there in the relatively recent past.

I was there in Nov., 2023. College town, very inexpensive housing costs, from a West Coaster's viewpoint. You could do a lot worse.

Did Stanford’s statement specifically say they’re making an external hire? It didn’t mention anyone being the interim.
Spring practice begins next week.
Also wild: The AD is still on the job. Luck reports to the president of the university. That’s some directional state U organizational garbage there. And it’s happening at one of the great universities in the land.

My guess is Luck will hire someone from the NFL, and keep the staff in place. They also need an OC, since Taylor was his own OC. Not an obvious candidate for an interim on the current staff to take them through next season.

Current AD announced last month he's stepping down at the end of the school year. So this most likely is going to be Luck's call.
