God ... can you imagine if Pearl goes to IU? It'd give the dickwad Illini fans a reason to get up in the morning for the next 10 years.

We can disagree on many things, OTR, including the relative ****tiness of our cities, but we can unite about the white-hot dickwadishness of Illini fans.

I would almost like to see Pearl hired for that reason alone.

Enjoy Hillary!

Pearl is well on his way to becoming a beloved God in Knoxville. With time, he has the chance to make himself synonymous with a long tradition of winning much in the same way as Coach K, Lute, et cetera.

He woke people the hell up down there. Filled Thompson-Boling over and over again. Got the new Pratt practice facility built for the men and women. He's done so much for UT; I doubt the "Big Orange Braintrust" lets him go that easily.

UT would counter whatever IU put on the table. At that point, it'd be a simple case of heartstrings. Wanting to forge his own legacy in a place and sport that hadn't really had one since the Ray Mears era, where the expectations weren't very high to going to a storied hoops school where the facilities are antiquated, the fanbase has been demanding for years and he'd live in the shadow of one of the best coaches to ever play the game.

Hell, he and Pat are the most popular coaches in Knoxville, with Foolmer a distant third. I'm biased, but it's a hella-sweet sitch to be in, IMO.

Uh, no.

Agree that Pearl has a sweet gig at UT, everything he does is gravy. At IU it would be a different story. It's going to take a coach with big cahones to want that job. People have been talking about Tony Bennett so there might be some interest there. I just don't know if there is another Bob Knight out there.

Except for ... Bob Knight.

I wonder if there's any lingering bitterness in the Bennett family remaining from Indiana's firing of Tony's sister, Kathy, as the women's hoops coach there a few years back.

I wondered that, too, but Kathi's resignation was as much a mutual decision as anything. She didn't want to coach anymore.

Heck, she's the only person who has taken an IU women's team to the NCAA tournament in the last 15 seasons.

Nolan Richardson here of Forty Minutes of Hell fame. Still available for the right price after all these years. Fools at Arkansas State didn't want me. It's taken the Hogs this long to win a tournament game since I've been gone. Just take a chance and I'll bring you Buddy Ryan to help your football program. He told me the other day he was a winner. I know I am.

And would anyone in their right mind take the Idaho job?

Winner winner, chicken dinner

MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — Idaho hired Utah State assistant Don Verlin as its basketball coach Friday, replacing the fired George Pfeifer.

Ray Lopes said he was interested in the Idaho job yesterday.

That guy used to be the manager at the Chuck E. Cheese near my house!

Idaho...anyone remember Tanoka Beard?

Cal fired Ben Braun today. That could be a very good job, you can sell a Stanford-quality education without the Stanford-level academic requirments for recruiting.

Hell yeah! Here's to hoping he returns to Eastern Michigan.

Missouri State hired Cuonzo Martin today.

Enjoy MSU's fans, Cuonzo. They have this funny misconception that they're owed a NCAA tourney appearance every year, despite very little history to back that up.

I'm sure after nine NCAA-less years under Hinson, they'll be happy to just have one.

He could return to eastern Michigan ... Detroit hasn't filled its opening yet.

Is any school out there interested in Rob Jeter?

Please?

Pretty please?

I had heard some rumblings that Toledo was a possibility for him.

Not likely. Hinson won 19 games a year during his time and was jobbed out of NCAA appearances in '00 and '06. Didn't matter. You'd think they were Kentucky the way they helped run him out of town, despite the fact the majority of their NCAA appearances can be traced to their days in the Mid-Con.

The old Mid-Con ... miss that conference:

Southwest Missouri State
Cleveland State
Northern Iowa
UW-Green Bay
Western Illinois
Eastern Illinois
Valpo
UIC
Northern Illinois

Sorry, but memories of PeeWee doing the Bunny Hop belong at Bowen and only Bowen.
But since Calihan's a barn too, U-D would not only be a good place for him, but a refreshing chance from Velvet Jones
