Left. Right. In a box by the door.
Appears to be a problem for Texicans sometime next week. Here's the five-day forecast:

Could be worse. One of the tropical storms in the Pacific is named Fabio.

Superduper updated update as of 5:30 -- winds up to 60 mph. I suspect the models are trending too far south on this system (they had trouble initializing it last night to the point that they thought it'd be dead within 72 hours, and a lot of them still want to have it go over Hispanola), and as a result I'd be more concerned about the East Coast for a strike.

At least we're not into the H's like we were this time last year.

Sucks for you. But the best deli sandwich I ever got came from nearby Bethlehem, just five minutes east on Route 22.

I'm not sure Texas is necessarily where the problem is going to be. Too far out really to tell. However, we're rapidly moving past the time of year when tropical systems take the Texas route. It's not unheard of. Certainly a possibility.

Here's the thing. Let's hope this stays a rain event and not a wind event. The only way the Southeast is going to break the current drought it's in is with a tropical system. Most states/area are way below average rain total and a tropical system will be needed to bust the drought.

You know who's 20 inches below their average for the year for rain? New Orleans. Wouldn't THAT be a mixed blessing.

been planning to get out of miami for a week starting saturday. thank god. miami might not be here when i get back but at least i won't have to sit through another dose of the hype, hyperbole and mass hysteria that sweeps through the region every time a wave forms out in the atlantic.

The next few days would be a good time for anyone along the Gulf Coast to go shopping for all of the hurricane essentials. Beat the rush ... you know you'll have to pick this stuff up one day anyway ... and it will be there when you need. Water, batteries, canned goods, etc.

Stock up now. Don't wait until everyone in town is at the store buying the same items. The shelves might be empty by then. You know what I mean if you've been through it before.

Yeah, Rita (end of September) was a real exception to the rule.

If I was in the eastern half of the Gulf, I'd be watchful. Not nervous, but watchful. After all, it's still just a tropical storm right now and there's always a chance it won't grow past a small Cat 1. The same high pressure bubble that's making me sweat in Texas right now, though, may take this thing up and send it on an Ivan-like path.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. i said it's a possibility. Rita showed that. I'm just saying on average, by August, hurricanes start shifting towards the central and east Gulf of Mexico for landfall.

Anyways, I'd do what Johnny_D says if you live near the coast. Get your supplies now. The earlier the better. And, if you're in Alabama, I'm pretty sure this weekend they're doing the no sales tax or some kind of discount on back to school supplies. Some of that stuff can be used during hurricanes, though. Like batteries. Anyways, stay tuned.

well, we've got our supplies for the rest of the season (gotta love costco) about the only thing we don't have is gas for the three 5-gallon gas cans. no need to fill up until it's a day or two away because i don't want 15 gallons of gas sitting in my shed for any longer than necessary. and the house will be shuttered while we're gone.

Looking at that track I can't help but think that it's not out of the realm of possibility for Chris to take a turn right for NOLA.
