In all the court and field stromings that have happened over time, how many people have truly been hurt? There are dozens if not hundreds a year honestly, many of which you never hear about. My school in football or basketball has been on both ends a combined five times this year. I know we're small time, but it is what it is.

I was in San Diego some years back watching SJSU play SDSU. Spartans won and some dumbass forgot where he was and tried to storm the field. He barely made it over the wall before he was detained.

I'm fine if it is a major rival, a tremendous upset or a significant win. As with many things, people are doing it more because it seems like the thing to do. I wish there was a little decorum about making sure the other team has a chance to leave first, but whatever. Let the people have some fun. I was in Reno when Nevada was playing Fresno State for the WAC football title. It was a whole to do outside the stadium. I was there for the WAC volleyball tournament so wasn't at the game, but Nevada won and people were pouring into the streets. A lady was on the phone with someone breathlessly talking about the win and how they got to storm the field and how exciting it was. It's what it's all about. Have some fun.

The last football game I went to in high school, we beat our rivals, which didn’t happen often for our perpetually sorry team. The faculty members serving as de facto sideline security helped us climb over the railing so we could reach the field at the end of the game. It was fun for a few seconds and then like “OK, now what?”

Happened way more times after 1976. It was a "thing" in the late 70s/early 80s. One of the most iconic moments in Brewers history is the rapid field invasion when they won the '82 pennant. I think the last time it happened in a World Series was 1984.

Happened in the NBA Finals. Didn't Boston Garden have a court storm after one of their title wins against the Lakers?

Even in the NFL, it was a thing. Packers fans stormed the field after beating the Cardinals (!) in the 1982 playoff tournament. (To be fair, they were almost certainly ice-fishing stupid drunk.)

Finally, like the fights at games I used to see all the time as a kid, it just kind of stopped. Teams got more serious about security and fans who might be inclined to storm the field were priced out of the seats you can storm from.

Dynamic never changed in college. So it never changed.

I used to be in the "let kids be kids" crowd, but it is a disaster waiting to happen. Wisconsin in 1993 nearly had a Hillsborough situation on their hands when fans stormed the field after beating Michigan. Several got caught up on a closed gate and a bunch of students were hurt in the crush.

The last court storm I was a witness to was ridiculous. Building isn't designed for it, so you had over-enthusiastic kids contemplating stupid **** like jumping down a 15-foot drop. It also had one choke point on each side of the court where you could have a crush-style situation. It was dangerous.

Caitlin Clark, even though it turned out to be much ado about nothing, was a canary in the coalmine. Some idiot is going to assault a player or coach. See Nottingham Forest-Sheffield United pitch invasion for an example of this. Billy Sharp was targeted and head-butted by a Forest fan in a pitch invasion.



And conferences can tsk-tsk, double-secret probation and fine all they want. None of that will work. If I was student, I'd be proud to get my school fined. They got my tuition money, **** 'em!

The only way to truly stop it - and I hate to go all Starman - but you have to make the guilty team forfeit the game.

Maybe not a "storming" but the 1988 NBA Finals had an infamous ending if you were a Pistons fan.
Lakers up three with two seconds left in Game 7 and the Pistons had to inbound the ball with photographers, the Lakers' bench, and a good chunk of Los Angeles County stepping onto the floor. Magic took advantage of the chaos to absolutely level Isaiah Thomas before he could get a 3-pointer off, and no foul was called.
To this day I can't believe this was a) allowed to happen; and b) has largely been forgotten.
