United wins the Community Shield. Still not convinced they can compete for the title this season.

Nice to see Moyes get to experience first-hand what lifting some silverware feels like, just for a change. I knew I was well-conditioned when I found it odd seeing Phil Neville in ManYoo colors.

Not a whiff of Bundesliga or Eredivisie on my Dish-connected TV, but since Qatar has apparently bought and annexed France, I am spoiled for Ligue 1 coverage. Guingamp's defending thus far wouldn't look out of place in the USL.

I know that I've written it here before, but I love the fact that after Phil Neville left for Everton, Gary insisted on having his uniform say "G. Neville" rather than just the last name.

United are in a precarious spot. I thing that they need to improve in the spine of midfield and at the fullback spot.

Anyone see how awful the Antigua Barracuda of the USL Pro League are doing? 0-24. Zero points. Negative 74 goal difference. 10 goals scored. I think there's a few more matches left too.

This feckless stupidity will be appearing at a ground near me Monday night. If all goes to plan, I'll be there, shaking my head at the idiocy of it all.

The Football Weekly podcast is back today, which means that the summer is almost over.

6/8/12 USA 3-1 A&B
10/12/12 A&B 1-2 USA

How quickly things change.

Football Weekly or Football Ramble? I've seen the new Ramble, but FW is usually a Monday-Thursday thing.

Weekly, but it isn't up yet. James Richardson tweeted that they recorded a new one and it will be up today.

Thanks. I'll have to keep an eye out for that.

Which soccer podcasts do folks here listen to? I frequent the Football Ramble, Football Weekly, Men in Blazers, Soccer Morning and The Best Soccer Show. The former Soccernet show was among my rotation, but there's too many shows to listen to at this point and ESPN FC (as it's now known) is a bit too sedate and doesn't break that much new ground.

Football Weekly, SI Soccer and Men in Blazers (although it sometimes gets too cute for me). I've never heard the Football Ramble, but will sample it.

The Football Ramble is good fun, if a bit blokey at times. Doesn't take itself at all seriously. Also, sounds like we'll have to wait another 24 hours for the first Football Weekly of the season.

My gawd ... Jozy Altidore. Assist and goal minutes apart to get the USMNT level in Bosnia. Other than a silly pass in the first half yards from the Bosnia goal when he should have shot, Altidore is having another outstanding game.

Altidore in beast mode. Hat trick and an assist. This has to be one of the best individual performances in USMNT history.

Naturally, because I couldn't watch it today. Stupid meetings.

Two world-class goals from Altidore. Defense was picked apart, but Jozy was brilliant. That new kid from Iceland, Aron Johannsson I think is his name, looked pretty smooth too. Nearly scored after juking two defenders in the box and had great composure with the ball at his feet.

Wow. The U.S. men won? Have to admit I'd left them for dead down 2-0 at halftime. Looks like I need to go find the highlights.....
