Attendance isn't so-so, it's non-existent. Butts in the seats actually generate revenue for MAC football, not small rights fees from ESPN, someone watching in California or someone betting the over-under.

I don't know what the rights fees are but I would have to think they'd more than cover the attendance shortfalls. Maybe I'm wrong. But I don't think these midweek games are costing teams tens of thousands of walk-up fans either.

Yes, the highest-ranked G5 conference champion gets a NY6 berth. So the rankings for them does have significance, but for the big boy table, not so much.

You don't think midweek MACtion is a huge boost for the conference? I think it's a no-brainer on a national level. The attendance might be so-so but it's like the mid-December bowl games -- no one's going but a lot of people are watching because it's the only football on. And obviously betting; the handle for Ohio-Bowling Green on a Tuesday night has to be 10 times more than it would be buried on the Saturday slate.

At least 10x greater. I'd think.

Have Miami -32.5 in a five-teamer (eh, what the hell, why not? It was only $5) and agree wholeheartedly.
Miami is far from the only ones in this boat earning FTG status for the night, though. North Carolina, Memphis and Texas A&M basketball also have me re-enacting the "**** you, **** you ... Mavericks, you cool ... **** you!" scene in my head.

Access to live betting is great for the books. What I’ve found it does WAY too often is I turn a winning bet into a winner and a loser.

Miami cost me the parlay but I’ll get it back during bowl season fading every MAC team.

My first exposure to live betting was when I was younger and dumb, shoving a pile of money on USC late in '06 Rose Bowl. They were up two scores with five minutes so why not pick up the couch change that was left to be won? And then Vince Young did his thing. Lesson learned. I'll never use it late in games again but will consider it early, like if an expected high-scoring game starts slow and I can grab an over at a smaller number.
