Hockey Hall of Fame's class of 2023. Reporting courtesy of Sportsnet.

Henrik Lundqvist, a former star goaltender for the New York Rangers, got the nod in his first year of eligibility.

Caroline Ouellette, who won four Olympic gold medals with Canada's women's team, will enter after being passed over last year.

Also set to be inducted in the player category are two other former NHLer netminders, Tom Barrasso and Mike Vernon.

Pierre Turgeon also goes in as part of a seven-member class.

Former NHL head coach Ken Hitchcock and former agent/general manager Pierre Lacroix, who died in 2020, will go in as builders at the induction ceremony Nov. 13 in Toronto.

I wasn't aware Pierre Lacroix died. Some of his rants were Ron Caron-esque. RIP

Mike Vernon in the Hall of Fame is just mind blowing to me.

I heard the announcement today on SiriusXM and I was surprised, too. I wasn't even so sure about Barrasso, either, but I can admit to being wrong. Then they said Lundqvist and I felt they finally got it back on track. Then Vernon. I would never have come up with Vernon as a Hall of Famer.

Even Barrasso getting in is insane. His speech will just be insufferable.

Mike Vernon, the third-best Stanley Cup winning goaltender the Red Wings have had in my lifetime.

When I started playing goal after college, there was a poster of Barasso in the same Cooper leather gear at the local skate shop showing a tall goalie could excel. He broke Devils' fans hearts on one of those Cup runs with Pittsburgh. Barasso, JVB (whose Rangers stick I used and still have) and Sean Burke were my guys as I learned to play net.

The new Philadelphia regime is reportedly shopping Carter Hart. Might get a decent haul for him, but is Cal Petersen the answer? No.
Some good young pieces there, including the 24-year-old goalkeeper, but ... news bulletin: the Flyers have sucked.

Maybe a team in the Western Conference will pull off a Boston-like Martin Jones trade and bounce Hart to New Jersey.
EDIT: Hart will be 25 in August.
