Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

Tucker did some things, by the book here.

He used his personal phone/burner. Excellent! That’s how it done.

Where it went wrong was his target. You don’t want a woman with a high-profile, unless she is married, has children still in the house. If she’s an elected official (the former mayor of Nashville, for example), even better. High-stakes job and visibility tends to keep people quiet.

The woman Tucker got involved with was the wrong choice on so many different criteria. Sexual assault advocacy is her livelihood. Passionate about it.

DO. NOT. TOUCH. Even yourself.

With the money Tucker is making, it’s a simple approach.

If you really need some action, just go to Skip The Games on your next road trip, find a pro, pay her cash and it’s just a transaction.

All the prevent defense a man ever needs.

He did some things right but picked the wrong woman.

We just going to gloss over this Jomboy-like breakdown?
We've missed you, freqposter.

Off and running with the imminent firing of Midnight Mel. Nobody on the current Sparty staff is serious HC timber on anything other than an interim basis.

I suppose McElwain at CMU would probably throw his hat in the ring. He's 61 and Sparty would probably prefer somebody younger, but they may not have a lot of options.

Narduzzi was supposedly the heir apparent during the Dantonio era, I dunno if he'd take it now.

No, I don't think Deion would be interested. He'll have better offers.

They need to go younger. If they don't I'd go get Willie Fritz.

If you go younger, I'd have gone after Rhett Lashley but with SMU going to a Power 5, he might not be as willing to jump now.

Duke OC Kevin Johns has Big 10 ties and he's in late 40s

May not be so much a case of going younger per se but a willingness to take a first-time head coach (i.e. less marquee value, less money). With an interim president and an AD who may be set up to take the fall, it might be hard for the next hire to know who the bosses are.

If Kansas wins 7 this year, I think Leipold is your first call or two.

Got the worst P5 program back from the dead and knows the B1G landscape well.

Imaginary lovers never turn you down
When all the others turn you away, they're around.

When ordinary lovers
Don't feel what you feel
When real life situations lose their thrill
Imagination's unreal

A few years ago Matt Campbell was a big possibility for the Michigan State job, now he's stuck in Ames, whether he wants to be there or not. As good as Leipold is doing at Kansas and as much of a winner as that guy is, he can't really stay if MSU calls right?

My guess is this Tucker situation is going to be settled quickly. He'll get some money and he'll get out. He's going to continue to say what happened with Brenda Tracy was consensual and she's going to continue to deny it was. So...Tucker's day as a head coach are likely done. Would someone bring him on a staff? D.J Durkin got hired immediately after Maryland let him go and he had an actual death of a player on his record and continues to get raises for taking more DC jobs. Art Briles can't even be on a field without raising eyebrows. So the goalposts move for different people.

Can you not embed Tweets anymore because of the name change to X? That place and this place sucks.

Anyway, Mel Tucker speaks.

I admit, I do think there's a lot of missing info here. Hopefully, those deleted texts can be recovered.

Still, consensual or not, Tucker is a moron of epic proportion and acted irresponsibly.

Mel Tucker should absolutely be fired with the cause being "he's a ****ing idiot", but this really feels like a big mess that everyone will end up looking bad from.

You can't embed off a phone and have it show up, just a desktop. At least that's how it is for me

You can embed from a phone if you’re using the web browser because Elon’s website redirects everything to twitter dot com.

If you’re using the X (formerly Twitter) app, then you’re screwed. Uninstall it.

Harlon Barnett is 56, played and coached under Perles and Saban and Dantonio, and also had a stint as DC at Florida State (although not particularly impressive). He was a teammate of AD Alan Haller for two seasons -- although Haller's own job security ain't looking so great.

I'd guess Barnett will get the full time MSU job barring anything short of a complete faceplant -- at about 1/3 what Tucker was making.

The schedule isn't going to do him any favors -- 2-8 is very possible

“We won 20 games in two years. We won bowl games in back-to-back years. I have five years on my contract with a f*cking impossible buyout … So there ain’t no f*cking hot seat in my mind. There just ain’t,” Holgorsen told The Athletic when talking about potentially being on the hot seat."

There is some truth to this, but UH just lost to Rice. Too much booster money getting spent to put up with that. It's one helluva "I'm not on the hot seat" quote, though.
