The first two bowls are today: New Mexico Bowl (Fresno State vs. Wyoming) and St. Petersburg (UCF vs. Rutgers).

I have no opinion on today's games, but here's a couple of headlines to get things rolling ...

1. NCAA investigating USC running back Joe McKnight's use of a Land Rover registered to a Santa Monica businessman:

2. Florida reinstates Carlos "Sleepy" Dunlap:

Here's the complete bowl schedule, by the way:

Gambling degenerates rejoice! Made-for-TV bowl season has begun!

Not to call them out, but the production crew from the Wyoming-Fresno game (can you tell I'm snowed in?) has been struggling so far. They flashed up a graphic with "Firstname lastname" in it and another one with zero turnovers for Fresno right after they lost the fumble.

It's cute how they're trying to sell us the Fiesta Bowl right now. Uh-huh, sure, guys.

Beef O'Brady's blows entire marketing budget on St. Petersburg Bowl. Signs contract too late to be name sponsor this year. Probably will be out of business next year when it rolls back around. Take THAT, magicjack!

And Wyoming shows you what happens when you quit trying to score and settle for a long FG.

On to double OT.

Christ, dude, give it a rest. Unless you want to tell the Fiesta Bowl that they were obligated to take a team they didn't want to pair with TCU so you could have your wet dream Florida-Boise game.

At least there'll be a break until March, when everyone starts whining that the mid-majors got screwed on tournament selections, like has happened every year here, regardless of whether there's a case.

Huge first year for former Mizzou OC Dave Christensen at Wyoming. And that was one hellacious goalline stand

Best goal line stand of the bowl season. I promise to stand by this statement come Jan. 8, too....

Ah, but the question that went unasked by ESPN's talent ... why didn't Fresno go for the field goal?

There's ALWAYS a case, given the band of thugs who control college
buckets.

Anybody every eat at a "Beef O Brady's"? It sounds somewhat disgusting - are they going for the "beef" version of Hooters?

And what's the deal with the St. Pete Bowl becoming the bowl with the weirdest title sponsor?

As described by the good people at EDSBS:

Introducing the St. Petersburg Bowl Presented By Beef ‘O’ Brady’s**, in the style of a platter of congealing wings being presented to your table of gaping exurban cakeholes by a junior college-slogging aspiring radiation technologist who’s got a disquieting vacant look in her eyes, but who needs eyes to get a halfhearted blowjob in the back of your XTerra after close? UP TOP.

$5 million for the title sponsorship of the St. Petersburg bowl? Dear ****, I guess now we know how all these bowls stay in business.

Yeah, it's a standard-issue sports bar ... burgers, wings, nachos, beer, waitresses in referee jerseys. Not bad, but nothing special.

How abou that play calling by Pat Hill? 4 consecutive runs into the line? I can see running once or even twice, but by third down you've gotta try something else. A rollout, waggle pass, run off-tackle. something.

Several times during the Saints game last night, the Superdome message boards tried to hype the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, between Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee. And the whole night - from parking the car, walking the streets, standing outside the stadium and thru the game - I saw exactly four people with USM garb and three with MT stuff, that in a crowd of some 80,000. Not exactly a multitude of support. R&L Carriers, BTW, is some kind of trucking company, I think.
