Amazing how the MAGA people on my text threads only comment about the WNBA when it is go complain about a slight against Clark, be it a poster or an uncalled foul

Cannot turn away from this ridiculous Fire-Mystics game which might just go to a fifth overtime

They may not know there are other players in the league and must protect the virgin queen.

I'd say Angel Reese is definitely a 6.
(too bad her overall frontcourt ranking was 7th, not 6th)

I would say the players were right on both. They may be slightly underrating Clark, but not by much.
I think they’re underrating her a lot, and doing so because she pisses them off.

Which, she is an annoying player. She was in college too. But she’s better than 11th.

Clark is an elite passer. She doesn't get enough credit for that.

She's a volume shooter, and a good scorer.

For all of the "from the logo!" hype, she's a... pretty good three point shooter. She's not even close to being the best 3 point shooter on her own team. Third in the league in three point attempts, 22nd in three point shooting average. That's not great.

She doesn't defend particularly well.

11th may be a little low, but if it is, it's not by much.

Rhyne Howard is the only player ranked above Clark by the players on that chart whom I'd say was an absurd choice. The others can make a case.

Marina Mabrey shoots more 3s than Clark and makes them at a 40.3% clip.

And Clark can make their case against them.

She plays a different game than some of them. A style that would help the WNBA, if the WNBA wanted to be a more entertaining league that's closer to 2020s NBA vs. 1970s NBA.

I prefer the unabashed blatant culture warrior stuff to whatever this is.
Caitlin Clark is definitely a cultural battleground. A lot of WNBA players don’t like her one bit.

The debate of course is why.

Doesn't seem all that dissimilar to PGA Tour players not really embracing Tiger and his hype before/until they realized he was making them all richer. (and unlike Clark, he actually won something two months after turning pro and won a major in less than a year)

Clark won ROY. Was she supposed to lead her team to a title?

Why did the PGA not really embrace Tiger? What was the perceived reason?

That his hype and endorsement money had (at that time) greatly exceeded his accomplishments. It's not exactly a novel phenomenon. Same likely happened with Michelle Wie. It absolutely happened with Anna Kournikova. Happened with Jeff Gordon in NASCAR.

“We hated him,” said former Tour pro John Maginnes on this week’s episode of GOLF’s Subpar. “The money — the rumor was $10 million. That was beyond what a quarterback was making. This was an astronomical sum of money, so we resented him.”
And another factor:

Phoenix Mercury veteran forward Alyssa Thomas said that she received death threats and had been called racial slurs after being suspended one game for contacting Clark's throat with her fist in the second quarter of a Mercury 111-109 win on June 22.
When the rabid fandom of one player goes over the top . . . there's going to be resentment, however misplaced it might be.

If you look at the advanced stats, Rhyne Howard is far ahead of Clark.

The player rankings are pretty solid.

Dan Patrick lit up WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert after she agreed to a radio interview, then backed out by saying the league's PR department advised against it. Meanwhile, she's on the golf course 50 yards away.

I realize DP isn't everyone's cup of tea, but he generally is as good as it gets if you want someone asking you "tough" questions. He doesn't play "gotcha." I think Rich Eisen is good that way too.

But judging by the video the commish needs as much practice time as she can get. Horrible swing.
