Chick-fil-A founder has passed away:

S. Truett Cathy, who turned a humble hometown restaurant featuring a boneless fried chicken sandwich into the Chick-fil-A juggernaut, died Monday at 1:35 a.m. He was 93.

Cathy, who died at home surrounded by loved ones, was known as much for his Christian principles — Chick-fil-A’s are closed on Sundays — as he was for his business acumen. He lived long enough to see his company rise from a local grill to the No. 1 U.S. chicken chain this year.

In many ways, he lived the American dream. Starting life in poverty, Cathy opened a tiny diner on the outskirts of Atlanta and built it into into a corporation with more than 1,800-restaurants. He was inspired as a teen by Napolean Hill’s motivational tome “Think and Grow Rich,” whose mantra was — you can achieve whatever your mind can conceive.

Think long and hard before answering this. I've never had Chick-fil-A.

Whose chicken is better: KFC or Chick-fil-A?

Did Harlan Sanders' and Truett Cathy's chicken paths ever cross.

Hate their politics, love their chicken sandwiches.

And Xan, Chick-fil-A by several football field lengths.

I wonder if Chick-Fil-A would have grown as much had Cathy kept the original name -- the Dwarf Grill.

It's now the Dwarf House, and it's in Hapeville, Ga., right across the street from what was the Atlanta Ford plant. I know this only because one spring break I had to make an emergency auto repair stop at that exit, and we went to wait and eat at the Dwarf House because it was right next door. Perhaps true to Cathy's religious beliefs, during dinner a minister's wife from Wisconsin struck up a conversation with us and slowly took us down a deep, deep conservative Jesus rabbit hole.

The food was good, though.

I agree with all of the above. Chick-fil-A has the best fast food chicken I've eaten.

Hands down the best service of any fast-food joint.

Almost creepy and cult-like how good it is. It's like they chant "My pleasure to serve you" for hours on end during the training sessions.

Courage of his convictions. There's not an MBA on Earth who would propose a business model for a fast-food franchise that includes being closed on Sunday.

I feel so guilty, for so many reasons, every time I bite into one of their sandwiches. Which is a lot.

And I have never been told "No Problem" by a server in a Chick-Fil-A ... [/endofrantaboutpetpeeve]

definitely hire civil employees.

We so love the food and service at Chick-fil-A that I'm willing to overlook their politics to eat there.

KFC has gone WAY downhill. Zaxby's is my favorite now.

Chick.

So being nice is now "creepy?" Would you rather they **** up your order and throw the food at you?

Chick-fil-A without question.

I also love Zaxby's but rarely have it as they're not in Idaho. Popeye's is my third choice. Last time I ate KFC I became violently ill.

I came across a story, maybe it was a year ago (so I don't know if this still is the case), that said CFA had the fast-food industry's highest average sales per restaurant. Considering all the other places are open one more day per week than CFA, I found that to be quite impressive.
