RIP David Clayton-Thomas

Lead singer of Blood, Sweat and Tears. Tremendous voice. First major concert I ever saw, at the Aud in Buffalo in the fall of 1971.

He also provided the vocals for a United Negro College Fund (or something like it) commercial that ran for a long time.

I heard it's cold way down there. Thankfully, there'll be one child born to carry on, to carry on. RIP to one-of-a-kind voice and composer. So many incredibly well-loved songs from their collection, it's hard to pick my favorite.



BS&T's horn section was easily the rival to Chicago, Tower of Power and the Stax Band. Incredible versatility and so clean. Every release was so unique. Plus, the breakdown at the end of "Spinning Wheel" was so awesome when the DJ would let the record run out.

I saw him do a solo act at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano .... in 1987. The Coach House is a 300-seat venue with everybody being close to the stage. I got to talk to him and asked him what it was like for a guy like him, who could fill a stadium, to be playing a venue like that. He said he loved being close to the people. I always list Chicago as my favorite band, but BS&T is close.
