It was 25-below here on the day the game was played. Winter-y enough for ya?

And that's way too ****ing cold to do anything outdoors.

Too bad it wasn't 40-below...

Throughout the past week with the windchill in Edmonton it was below that.

And people still live there?

Damn. -20F I can do. -40, I'm not so sure about.

It only hits that cold a few times a year, it's not that cold all winter. And yes, those are days you don't leave the house unless you absolutely have to. Good night to order in.

A good point was made in the comments section. How many were watching the CBC feed?

The smart ones... and CBC doesn't show up in the Nielsens -- something that the Detroit media forgets to credit in stories like this.,

Overall, American ratings were up 12 percent.

Pretty damn good but even cynics like me about this crap figured that this was as good a scenario as you'll ever get: the reborn Blackhawks, the Stanley Cup winners, Wrigley Field and a perfect winter day.

Somehow a Columbus/Thrashers game in Ohio wouldn't have quite the same appeal.

Seals and Jets never met, but that would be an amusing theme for a Stars-Coyotes game in Phoenix. Maybe with a ginormous portrait of Pancho Villa or Barry Goldwater looming above the ice in Phoenix.

Minus 20 I can handle. No problem. And really if it sticks around until March, big woop, it didn't get here until early December.
