I'm not a fan of the winter Olympics, the Summer Olympics are more my thing.
Don't know anything about Luge, biathalon, and I DEFINATELY don't get curling.
I hate sweeping my kitchen every night, do you think I want to see other mofos with brooms sweeping and yelling at a big ass stone?
Oh hell to the no!
The only Winter Olympics sport that gets me excited is of course, men's and women's ice hockey.
Now that the NHL players are playing in the Olympics again, I'm even more excited.
Can't tell you how many times I've gotten up to watch those 6am games between some team like Slovakia, Czech Republic , Switzerland and even who I'm rooting for, Team Tre Kroner, that's Sweden folks.
Today was no different.
It was the quarterfinals game between Germany and Slovakia again at 6am or so.
I didn't really have any rooting or emotional interest in this game until they showed the fans in the stands proudly wearing both Germany and Slovakia jerseys.
A couple of fans for Slovakia held up jerseys with the name Demitra on the back.
It was for former NHL player Pavol Demitra who played for the St. Louis Blues and Los Angeles Kings.
He was killed in a plane crash with his teammates and coaches in the KHL, the Russian Hockey League.
I found myself getting a little misty eyed.
He was the last NHL player that I interviewed in 2006 when he was with Los Angeles and I'll never forget his sense of humor when I asked him after he had gotten traded from St Louis to LA, "what do you think your role will be on the Kings?"
His response?, "Don't know, ask coach".
Slovakia eliminated Germany and they're going to the semifinals.
R.i.p Pavol, I know you were watching the Olympics too.
