The ticket prices were totally by design.
Back when I was a kid growing up in Pittsburgh you could get a cheap $7 general admission seat at Three Rivers Stadium and - when I got my license and a car - Cleveland Municipal Stadium. As these owners bent over the local governments to tear down these 60,000-seat ashtrays and build 40,000-seat right-sized ballparks they were able to decrease supply which also gave them the opportunity to increase costs.
I was just on Stubhub looking for Phillies tickets for the weekend of July 20-22 and almost everything starts at $30 or more. Keep in mind this team isn't drawing well right now. This is probably why. $30 for upper deck seats is lunacy. And then they wonder why a team that's finally competitive again and 10 games over .500 is playing to crowds that are 55-percent capacity.
