I'm trying to watch the Travers here.

I haven't paid much attention to Mayne in a while.

Does the guy have a cutesy, wise guy line for everything? It really gets old because most of them just aren't funny.
Don't know why I never noticed this before. Just happened to jump at me today. Is this new for him because I always thought he was one of the good ones?

Working that gig, he's probably pissed and taking it out on the viewers.

I'm just sick of his insurance commercials.

Ditto.

Thought he was damn good on SportsCenter, though.

On a side note, (speaking of ESPNites), if you have seen the movie Benchwarmers, you will never look at Sean Salsbury the same again.

Those insurance commercials are pathetic.

And Moddy, it's probably the same schtick he's always done. Many think its brilliant. In its right place, his stuff can be funny.

But like you, I find Mayne annoying as hell when his schtick isn't given proper context and a live sporting event definitely qualifies.

His (alleged) line about Stuart Scott earns him a 10-year exemption in my book.

You mean, I'll hate him even more.

Share that line, please. I need to like the guy again.

I heard the line was, to the effect, something being lazier than Stuart Scott's eye.

If true, then your earlier post is dead on.

Still, Kenny, give the comedy schtick a rest now and then.

Bernardini won the Travers, by the way, about a million lengths ahead at the end.

Yep.

Still curious as to why he didn't get the Cardinals OC job........Denny interviewed him, and said he was basically a lock.

Why did the Mayne-Patrick partnership for the 11 p.m. SC flame out? ESPN was hyping the hell out of them following their falling out with Keith Olbermann.

(Sorry if I'm D_Bing ... just never heard an explanation, official or otherwise)

ESPN hasn't been the same since Craigers left the 2 a.m. "feel-good" Sports Center.

I thought Mayne got busted when he reported a college basketball score and said: "ESPN's David Aldrige confirms Ohio State beat Akron 71-59."

Not quite as funny as the Stuart Scott line but still funny, if the urban legend is true.

Kilby and Ravech were the only reasons to be conscious at 2 am.
