Since we didn't have a thread, thought I'd start one.

That was probably the most coherent analysis and rundown of last night's debate.

I really didn't get Romney's "so blue, it's black" comment about Mass. It sounded bad to me. (And it sounded awfully silent in the room.)

McCain should tell his jokes once, twice tops. But he still proved he has some fight in him, quite effectively hacking out Romney's knees.

I liked Huckabee's dig at Edwards, because that guy is a total foof creep.

Giuliani doesn't stand a chance.

You're wrong about Edwards.
The son. The wife. The guy shows more steel just getting out of bed in the morning than a smug, greasy little Rotarian twerp like "Mike" Huckabee has exhibited in his entire public career,

I admit I had more than the minimum daily requirement of beer (hey, it's needed for a GOP debate), but I was pleasantly surprised at the questioning by the Fox people. I thought there'd be a lot more softballs.

Yeah, but Brit Hume should audition for the 24 writing staf on his own time.

That's just it, FB. I don't get how someone who has been through so much comes off as such a shallow prig.

Coming off a botched story on him, so that might be affecting my judgment. But from what I saw, Elizabeth is the genuine article. He's a foof, and he's definitely surrounded himself by foof people.

Props to Fox for better questions and follows- esp. Wendell Goler. This guy should replace Russert. I'm still stunned Ron Paul got slammed for his accurate recitation of what led to anti-US sentiment in the Middle East. Rudy was smart to try and turn it into "blaming the US for 9/11" but since he said he never heard that explanation before, it makes me wonder where he has been.

Wendell Goler is the real deal. Good at what he does, and the one time I met him (parents of a girl I dated in college are/were really close with him and his wife) he was really cool. At the time I had never heard of him, but he knew some of the people I had started working for and was just an easy guy to talk with.

The play-acting there's a terrorist attack was a bit of a stretch. As one of them said (paraphrasing), why are we doing this when we've got a real cluster**** going on in Iraq we can talk about.

Also, I wish they hadn't cut off the comments in response to Paul's 9/11 comments. **** the rest of the format, we've got candidates willing to engage in a real debate? Cool.

They should have allowed each candidate who wanted to speak to that to do so for 30 seconds, but in between each comment give Paul 30 seconds to respond. He said something that woke them off their asses, he deserves time to respond to each and every one of the other 9 who were poised to attack. He could have proved he's worthy of sharing the stage with the big boys, or maybe he would have fallen on his face. Alas, we'll never know.

It all adds up now. No Americans watch these debates. I guess they put them on for Canada.

Rudy needs to read Looming Tower. Obviously Ron Paul did. Rudy is not having a good few weeks. Village Voice did story on him that did not put him in very good light.

Boom, I think most GOP primary voters side with Rudy on that particular clash, do they not?

Most likely, but its not a very informed decision on their part if they do. Clearly one of reasons Bin Laden attacked was his resentment of US military presence in Saudi Arabia.

They do. It shows us in detail how much more coherent and literate our own politicians are.

(I can get away with using those adjectives to describe our pols now than Jean Chretien has mercifully retired.)

Absolutely correct.

And after all this time, there is still never a serious debate about what kinds of things we need to do, what kinds of things we have done, with regard to Middle East policy that have played a part in these attacks.

Instead, it usually takes about 3 nanoseconds for someone to say, "Oh, so you're blaming America for it, huh?!?"

We need some seriously gifted minds in Washington to put everything on the table (foreign policy, military presence, intel, Israel, etc.) and to see if there aren't some things we need to change.

That's a great statement. It puts a whole new perspective on things:

"President George W. Bush, having finally cornered Osama bin Laden, enjoys a tasty snack before administering the coup de grace to his arch-foe."

Caddyshack_Karl_Spackler.jpg

"The president pauses, giving deep and thoughtful consideration to what he is about to do. He has sentenced terrorists younger than this to the gas chamber. He didn't want to do it. He felt he owed it to them."

carl_spackler-249x170.jpg

"Alas, the president's delay allows bin Laden to escape once again and re-arm, determined to continue the jihad against the American infidels!!"

2729.jpg

"After numerous setbacks, the president eventually abandons the struggle, his attention diverted by issues far more demanding of his valuable time, knowledge and expertise."

carlhose.jpg

"He is secure in knowing that when he dies, on his deathbed, he will receive total consciousness. He's got that going for him, which is nice."

Can't agree, Jonesy, for the reasons I stated, and for others on which you can PM me, if you're interested. You don't get to be a shark lawyer, and beat a complete fraud like Lauch Faircloth, and live the life he's lived by being a foof. You want a foof? Look at the Mittster.

Boom's right on the war of terror answer, by the way.

In the early 90's in Khartoum this is what Bin Laden was teaching training classes of soldiers.:

He told Al Qaeda recruits that "while America appeard almighty they are actually weak and cowardly. As example he sighted Viet Nam and Lebanon. When soldiers start to come home in body bags, Americans panic and retreat A country such as US needs only to be hit with a few sharper blows, then it will flee in panic as it always has". America lacks conviction"
