The script requires the preteen actress to confront tougher challenges than Brooke Shields and Jodie Foster did when, at Fanning's age, they played child prostitutes.

An Oscar vehicle.... for whoever can actually ****ing pull off raping a child on film.

I can't imagine if I were an actor I would ever do that.

Wasn't the whole basis of "A Time to Kill" a child rape that was pretty graphic? That turned out to be a pretty good movie. Not Oscar-worthy, but a pretty good movie nonetheless.

There was an extremely disturbing scene (to me) in the movie Eye for an Eye... and that depicted an 18-year-old being raped and murdered by Kiefer Sutherland's character (is there a better badass in films when he was coming up?).

This, though, is way beyond that on face value.

I hope it gets an X rating.

I'd just like to point out that saying that just because Dakota Fanning appears in a movie in which she is a rape victim, doesn't mean she will be shown raped on film -- at least I sincerely hope not.

There was an extremely disturbing scene (to me) in the movie Eye for an Eye... and that depicted an 18-year-old being raped and murdered by Kiefer Sutherland's character (is there a better badass in films when he was coming up?).

I saw Eye for an Eye again last week. It is indeed a terrifying scene. I didn't realize the girl's character was 18, but I knew she was young. (Sally Field plays an awesome distraught character, and after watching that again, I am torn if Sutherland makes a better good guy or a better bad guy.)

Dakota Fanning has played some pretty gripping parts already. In her interviews, she claims to know the difference and realizes it's just acting. I know after watching Man on Fire I had wondered what kind of counseling that kid must get.

Yes, there's a difference between being physically ripped off the ground and kidnapped and being raped, but she would have also been 2-4 years younger. Watching MoF, I wondered how you explained to a 9-year-old about the difference between acting and real life. At least at 12, she has a more mature capacity to understand rape than she would have had at 9.

But really, I am totally impressed with this kid's poise and her work.

And even though there might be a scene calling for topless scenes or whatnot, remember body doubles are a Hollywood constant, too. Like it really wasn't Julia Roberts in many flashes of the beginning of Pretty Woman.

I'm dumbfounded. There has to be another way. My daughter is 12, and I cannot imagine the circumstance under which I'd allow anything close to this involving her. By the time young Ms. Fanning comes of age, she's going to know exactly what prostitution is, because that's what her parents are doing to her.
