There are three 7-0 teams in the AAC, all hoping to win out and grab the "best G5" slot. The view around the league, though, when you set aside the obvious self interest and hopes of SMU, Tulane, and UTSA, is to hope that Tulane wins the league championship. No one wants to see SMU win the trophy in their last season and take it to the ACC (haaawk, ptui!), and UTSA has three early season losses. Tulane is ranked and would be the best representative in a New Year's Day bowl.

Liberty or Toledo would jump UTSA. Even UNLV would be back in play before Meep Meep.

Cruces winning on the Plains was the best thing that could have happened for Liberty's SOS. It's still Tulane's bid to lose, but 13-0 Liberty with two wins over a 10-win NMSU team might have something to say about a two-loss SMU getting the G5 NY6 spot. All depends on what the CFP rankings look like.

Yup, that's true and obvious. UNLV is a great story this season. That said, late season UTSA with Frank Harris back healthy has a legit chance to win the league, and I wouldn't be that unhappy if they did. I respect them. They've been really solid the last three years, and Harris has had three surgeries this year.

It feels like he ought to be 27 or older. UAB - UTSA has been a knock down drag out series. aTm would be smart to hire Traylor... but smart will likely be trumped by Big Name. They'll go after Lane Kiffin or Dan Lanning. They might take Traylor if they miss on those guys. Kiffin might jump. I'm not sure Lanning is willing to step onto the griddle that is coaching in College Station.

I remain amazed at the Big 12's butchery of the language and common-sense communications about its tiebreaker system.
The statement it released on Sunday declines to address what happens if there's a four-way tie for first at 7-2. It appears to say, "It's too complicated. We'll get back to you if and when it comes to pass."
I thought the league had released a "clarification" statement that said any team that goes undefeated in a massive jumble for one or both spots was in. If so, that would guarantee a spot to Oklahoma State if there's a 7-2 logjam. But I don't see any reference to this, which would occur if Texas loses and Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Kansas State all win. In that event, the Cowboys would be 2-0 with the quartet. K State would be 0-2 and Texas and Oklahoma would be 1-1. Wouldn't OSU get in by being 2-0 and wouldn't OU break free of Texas by virtue of the Red River win in October?

I even saw a Cowboys fan site report that OSU would be left out in the event of a three-way tie between the Cowboys, Longhorns and Sooners. That's bizarre because Texas didn't beat either competitor, losing to OU and not playing OSU. OU beat Texas and lost Bedlam. OSU won Bedlam and didn't play Texas.

He's had tough luck, but cases like this stretch the concept of fair competition when 24 or 25-year-olds are playing against kids who are 18, 19 and 20.

I just don't understand how the NCAA just rubberstamps situations like this when it is obvious the kid shouldn't be allowed to get all these extra years, but they continue to faceplant on stuff like Tez Walker and transfers of that ilk.

Walker was a two-time transfer who used up his free move when he went from NC Central to Kent State. One could say the NCAA cut him a break as a two-time transfer, although the fact that NC Central didn't play in 2020 muddled the picture.

As for Rising, the NCAA is afraid of being sued. But as I said, he redshirted twice and will get two injury redshirts. He's had his chances.

There's a good chance someone in the NCAA offices saw that he was going to school in Utah and assumed he had been a missionary.

I think it would make for an interesting documentary to spend a few months in the life of a 27-year-old college quarterback. Especially one who has shaky pro prospects.

What's his life balance? Where does family come into the picture? Does he, uh, attend class? Is he a 19-year-old living in a 27-year-old's body?

With NIL he's just another college kid pursuing his career. And actually, he's 24. A grown man, certainly, but by all accounts he's a good kid who came up through all the Covid craziness affecting rosters.

I went back to school to finish at 28 and graduated at 30. And even as a commuter student with an hour commute and a wife and kid at home, it was still pretty fun. I’ll bet going through as the starting quarterback is even more fun.

That's quite an accomplishment on your part. Lot of juggling.

2018: Redshirted at Texas.
2019: Transferred, redshirted at Utah.
2020: Played one game at Utah, injured.
2021: Played at Utah.
2022: Played at Utah.
2023: Injured, redshirted.
2024: Will play at Utah, seventh season.

He's only really played in 2 of 6 seasons, although redshirting twice was his choice. He was a junior or redshirt sophomore by the time Covid had any impact on his football life.

Good kid or not, I don't think college players should have seven years of eligibility. But he's the Big 12's problem now, not the Pac-2's.
