Yeah. And we continue to pile up evidence that they really were made for each other.

Still cannot believe Lane's father was once a head coach at my alma mater. Monte Kiffin wasn't exactly over the top.

If anything, it is about to go the other direction if Alabama loses next Saturday and gets left out. We will be lucky if Greg Sankey only kills off the SECCG instead of pushing the red button to nuke FBS altogether.

I can't imagine the Tide will get bumped. Losing the SEC title game in a season where the league has really excelled shouldn't get you tossed. There are other candidates.

If BYU upsets Texas Tech, then the Big XII gets the extra bid the SEC is expecting and it wouldn’t be a matter of jumping an idle team over them as a “punishment” for playing an extra game. (If you wonder about the wording, that was the justification for SMU making it last December.)

To clarify, I doubt Alabama is winning a national title and if they lose next weekend I don’t think it is any sin to say they shouldn’t make the cut. But really think that might be the cotter pin that causes all of college sports as we know it to collapse. So I have an extra reason to wish for the Tide to roll one more time.

Ont thought is that as a conference near the bottom in terms of resources in the Division 1-A the other schools lose most of their best players to schools with more money. The talent levels have deteriorated and it is easier for new entrants to compete.

I think Kiffin was the beneficiary of not playing the top teams in the SEC this year. I think his teams at LSU will have some good wins, some inexcusable losses and miss the playoffs routinely.

That will always be the case in the megaconference era. Ohio State and Indiana largely avoided the top end of the Big Ten, and Texas A&M did the same in the SEC. It's not their fault that some normally tough opponents fell apart, and you can't penalize them for beating everyone they're supposed to beat.

I'm not talking about penalizing the team, but overvaluing the coach of the team. I think Kiffin is a second-tier CFB coach. Good but not great. And by all means he should have grabbed the biggest deal that was offered to him realizing the stars may not align like this again.

During halftime, as the Alabama State marching band performed, Tuskegee kicker Lorcan Ryans, a junior from Limerick, Ireland, appeared to be launching kicks toward the band and walking into the band’s formation to retrieve the ball. In a video shared on TikTok, the kicker appears to get into a confrontation with a band member.

Not an HBCU, but there's a famous incident in LSU lore from way back when.
During the LSU-Auburn game in 2001 that was a de facto SEC semifinal game (it was postponed after 9/11, as was Tennessee-Florida, and the two games wound up both being for the division titles on the first weekend in December), Auburn kicker Damon Duval was warming up while LSU's band was doing its halftime routine.
Duval is kicking at one end, around the 30-yard line, and the band is on the other half of the field for most of it. But the band's big finale is to march from one end zone to the other and as soon as they lined up all 90,000 people in the stadium saw this train wreck coming.
Duval and a couple other players did not get off the field and the band didn't break stride. One tuba player became a folk hero by knocking him around as he passed by. Coupled with Auburn stomping on the logo before the game, a decade of crazy games between the teams, the chance to get to the SEC championship game for the first time, and a dozen other side plots I don't have time to go into, it was just one more log on a burning fire of hatred throughout Tiger Stadium.
Hands down, that was the most visceral, intense football game I've ever been to. LSU fans were hungry for blood and if they'd lost there might have been some murders in the parking lot that night.

Perhaps the worst thing about this is that it’s going to cause Missouri State’s seven or eight rich boosters to start agitating for a fancy new stadium that will never come close to actually selling out.

Frankly, I don’t think he was capable of b.s. because his personality was “eccentric genius,” which meant he wasn’t cut out for the social/glad-handing aspects of head coaching, but was perfect as an assistant coach scheming up a game plan to contain Brett Favre.
