Kentucky has the ball with three minutes left and decides to throw the most wounded duck pass you’ve ever seen in your life. Auburn picks it off, then promptly fumbles it back at midfield.

In this Pac-2 matchup, the 2 “P’s” have been punts and penalties. Lots of both … but despite playing horribly all second half, the Cougs have a chance to win late.

And instead, the WSU QB takes a sack on third down and their kicker misses a short field goal. Beavers still lead 10-7.

The Cougs ability to lose close games transcends coaching staffs and conferences.

Auburn got a couple of kudos in the local media this week for keeping its powder dry while others were kicking coaches to the curb. But if they lose at home to a Kentucky, I don’t think Hugh Freeze can be on the sideline the rest of November without an armed revolt on the Plains.

No matter when they do it, they're going to be way down the list of prominent programs seeking to hire people. They're not going to be overrun with big-name applicants. It's just not a great job. They're going to suffer their fifth straight losing season. They haven't had that kind of run since 1946-50.

It is Iowa, which dropped 37 straight games to ranked Big Ten foes from 11/4/1961 through 11/15/1980. (The string began with JFK in the White House and ended in the era of MTV.)
Northwestern had a 34-game run that began in 1972 and ended in 1991.
