I would argue Notre Dame signing the NBC contract is bigger than Penn State joining the Big 10 by a slim margin. That agreement is the sole factor that's kept them from joining a conference for 30 years.

There actually is some logic and a bit of compassion behind it. UAB's AD reached out to his counterpart at FIU earlier in the week after the C-USA conference call and offered to host the game.
Florida International is also, basically, sending all of its athletes in every sport to Birmingham for the duration.

UAB is apparently afraid they might get the program yanked again if there's a Saturday without football there. In addition to the Alcorn-FIU game, they invited Georgia Southern and New Hampshire to play at Legion Field on Saturday afternoon. Georgia Southern is close to the coast, and the storm is forecast to head that way after it's finished in Florida.

Yeah, that kind of surprised me, too. I think WAZZU can win big, but that line makes me a bit nervous.
Then again, the Cougs have a guy with (IMO) the best name going in college football: Hercules Mata'afa.

Supposedly the smoke isn't as bad on the Palouse as it is along the Columbia River Gorge and much of Oregon (or northeast Washington, North Idaho, Montana ...)

Idaho has an afternoon game with UNLV; I suppose if they were desperate, the Boise State-Cougs game could move eight miles east into the Kibbie Dome.

This is Penn State's 25th season in the Big 10. Other than the 1984 Supreme Court case that gave TV negotiating rights to the conferences, you could argue that move is college football's most significant off-field moment of the last 40 years.

Eugene got a ton of rain today, which knocked down the smoke. It had been bad around here since early last week, to the point we went to the coast and then to my dad's place to escape the smoke. It got better throughout the week, then a lot better today.
