I saw a drawing of it this morning when I was getting info for our movie page. Essentially, it looks like a gigantic pubic louse. With scores of other, smaller pubic lice attached to it.

Not to pour water on BYH's hatred for all things JJ Abrams, but he has about as much to do with LOST as I do with the SportsJournalists.com novel (I wrote one chapter and it was the shortest of the bunch.) Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof are the guys who made up the scary smoke monster on LOST, and have been pretty much running the show since about Episode 3. Abrams came back to direct an episode for the start of season 3, but that's about it.

People have fun ****ting on Blair Witch, but it's an incredible success story. These nobodies took a few thousand dollars and made something nobody had ever seen before. Yeah, the acting sucks and the camera work is distracting, but they had an actual unique idea and busted the studio system and grossed a quarter of a billion dollars.

I was lucky enough to see it at the very beginning, in the limited release, knowing almost nothing about it except that it had huge buzz. Of course if you know everything about it and it's been overhyped it's going to be disappointment. But keep it in its context and you have to respect the hell out of what they pulled off.

I saw it during the day and was ****ed up the rest of the day. I knew it wasn't real but was otherwise unsure what I'd just seen.

A few days later I pulled off maybe the best/****tiest prank of my career. A female friend came into town and I took her to see it. She'd never even heard of it and it freaked her the **** out.

She was staying with me for the weekend, and I surreptitiously called a buddy in her town:

"Get a bundle of sticks about the size of a football and tie it up with twine. Leave it on her doorstep."

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"Trust me. Just do it."

She lived in a little house in the woods. I think if I had been there when she found it she would have murdered me on the spot.

I saw BWP opening night and was laughing 15 minutes in and had to leave the theater lest I incur the wrath of my fellow suckers.
It was cheap, badly acted, and utterly, supremely stupid. It may have been the dumbest movie ever made that didn't star Adam Sandler.
Three college students, lost in the wilds of Maryland (!), and, over and over again, they cross that ******* river. Hey, geniuses, FOLLOW THE RIVER. It will lead you to a larger body of water around which, very likely, other people will live. It's still one of the most unintentionally funny movies I ever saw.

I like the idea of the monster lice, at least.

Maybe that's how they kill it...they rig a fire hose and blast it with Rid-X.

One thing I wish movie people would explain to me: Why do all giant mutated monsters have an instinctive urge to kill and destroy? Isn't it just as likely for some wayward abomination of nature to have the personality of a panda bear, lesbian dolphin or Raffi?
