24: Redemption

I'm very much looking forward to this.

It sucked not having 24 last season because of the writer's strike.

Redemption, I'm sure, will tease the hell out of all of us and make us wait two more months 'til season 7 kicks our asses.

After season 6, I might give it another shot, but I'm not holding my breath...

But Tony's coming back from the dead!

Season 6 had its moments, good and bad, but it wasn't enough to turn me off from the show entirely. I've watched it since that first episode in 2001, and I've been hooked ever since.

Honestly, season 6 was so long ago it's fuzzy. I do remember rolling my eyes far more often, but that might be b/c Joel Silver was revealed to be a douchebag who got off on making torture porn for fascists.

TSP is right though. They're running out of **** to do and they're rapidly approaching self-parody.

I'll still watch, but my expectations are low...except for the Tony plot. I'm looking forward to that.

I was really surprised to find out that until this next season, the writers just kind of made it up as they went along - they never had a plan for how the "day" would end before they finished the first script. They did a good job of masking it in earlier seasons, but the most recent season was a joke, it felt like being in a maze with so many walls run into and story double-backs. I'd forgotten most of it, thankfully, but I'm encouraged that they know how this season is going to go down right now.

I'm not surprised at all. Season 6 is the proof of that. Should have changed the name of the show to 17 in 2006 and ditched all of the save-Audrey plot that made up the final third.

Unfortunately, they had to shut down production for two weeks this fall for script rewrites.

(No sign of Audrey in Day 7, near as I can tell.)

The Tony plot will either be sheer, unadulterated genius or 24's Jump the Shark moment.

Oh, I think we already saw that moment. Many, many times. I mean, how many times can a guy be tortured within an inch of his life and bounce back like nothing's wrong?

But, but, but ...

He's Jack Bauer, dammit!
