Fourth-youngest pitcher to strike out ≥ 12 in any postseason game. He was born on Feb. 1, 2001.

Gibson had 2 playoff games with more than 10 strikeouts.

He allowed 2 runs and two walks with 13 Ks in 10 innings in Game 5 of 64 series

He had a walk with 17 strikeouts in complete game shutout in Game 1 of the 68 series

He had a walk in all nine of his playoff starts

A Yankee dude named Johnny Kucks pitched a 3-hit shutout against Brooklyn in Game 7 of the 1956 World Series, gave up three hits. He had one strikeout. Brooklyn had five HOFers on that team who went a combined 2-for-15.

Point being, the Yankees have a ton of history that gets overlooked or forgotten in the ESPN era. Costas, insufferable as he can sometimes be, would have at least mentioned Johnny Kucks.

Yes it will, because it’s the Yankees, but it’s a relatively routine play that looks better because of the flip.

Yes, I know he had to give up his body to make the play, but the catch itself is pro forma. In a ballpark with more foul territory, he makes that catch and it’s instantly forgotten.

And I hope Karl Ravech checked into a hospital for the nonstop erection he had for the Yankees while calling that series.

Every other ESPN crew I watched was better than their No. 1 crew is to begin with, but add in Ravech’s pom-pom act, and it was that much worse.

Good riddance to ESPN and its half-assed coverage of baseball.

Well, Chicago's only true MLB team advanced to the next playoff round. I believe the White Sox yesterday tried to trade Garrett Crochet again, this time for a box of scuffed baseballs and a Dodger Dog Hawk Harrelson partially regurgitated in 1993.

Hmm, that trade is working out very well for the Sox.

Two regulars with good upsides, Teel and Meidroth. They could be starters for the next 10 years.

Gonzalez had a 1.23 WHIP and a 2.66 ERA in 16 games in Chicago.

Montgomery is 22 and hit a combined .270 over three levels of MiLB this year, topping out at triple-A. He was a monster at Stanford and TAMU and has a great upside.

We'll agree to disagree. White Sox won 41 games with Crochet in 2024, then won 60 this year and were much, much improved, thanks in a large part to the players the Red Sox gave up. They will help the team for the next five years at least; Montgomery has a chance to be very, very good, based on his college numbers against excellent opposition in the old Pac-12 and the SEC.

Even with Crochet the Red Sox took third in their division and couldn't get out of the wild card round. And he'll probably blow out his arm in the next five years and need TJ surgery.

But yes, there is an element of "wait and see." I think the ChiSox did a very good job on this trade.

Andrew Vaughn traded to Milwaukee, who immediately sends him down to triple-A.

All things considered, I think he'd rather have stayed with the White Sox.

My bad. He was already in triple-A, so he's moving from Charlotte to Nashville.

Vaughn happy with the way it’s turned out. He’s due up soon to face the guy the Brewers dumped for him, who is now in for mop duty with the Cubs.

I’ve said this before, but when I covered those late 90s, early 00s Diamondbacks teams, the biggest asshole in that clubhouse wasn’t Curt Schilling, who was actually a pretty good guy to talk to before MAGA rotted his brain. It was Counsell. Throughly unpleasant guy to deal with. Just a grade A douche canoe.
