Give less than a **** about football. Be fine with going 3-9, 4-8. On a lot of Saturdays they're lucky to get 30,000 in that stadium. And that's after all the tailgaters file in at the end of the first quarter. They'd probably be better off in the Patriot League playing Holy Cross and Lehigh, but they like the ACC check too much I reckon.

Like the Ivies and Stanford, they have an absurd number of sports. Sailing isn’t an NCAA championship sport. Fencing and skiing barely are. So the ACC check is probably what keeps the bloated beast alive in full.

The reason not to hire Belichek is that he is the HC version of Aaron Rodgers. I was saying to a friend today that sometimes letting cooler heads prevail is the wrong approach. On that Sunday night, almost everyone thought that McCarthy was gone - because it was so bad.

I think right now you could get Belichick to agree to cede personnel control. I don’t think he wants a year on the sidelines. However I don’t think he’d be true to his word and by Hallowe’en it would be conflict-ridden.

Q, this is for you. Our fair city's most popular and horrible (could be repetitive there) talk show duo, Felger and Mazz, are actively pumping the idea the Pats should trade for Fields as their first move of their rebuild. I am not as down on Fields as you, but I do know that's nutsw.

Why would they want to pick up the fifth-year option of an average quarterback as part of a rebuild? That is a terrible idea.

It would benefit Fields if he went to a team like the Falcons that had some weapons in place. I honestly can't think of a worse place for Fields than the Patriots.

Bill Belichick will be 73 at the start of the 2025 NFL season. Gentle reminder that the only coach that old to ever coach an NFL game was Romeo Crennel.

I wonder if Belichick was unwilling to just coach and wanted to still have a heavy say in personnel matters, because he was total **** at the latter in his final New England years.

I think Charles McDonald said wanted to just coach but that no one in the Atlanta front office believed that for a second. Everyone from McKay on down felt their roles would be marginalized at best. Oddly enough, McKay is now out of football ops anyway.

Well I don't mean to rip on O'Connell because I think he's a good coach (watch Quarterback on Netflix) and Shanahan's not scaring anyone and he's tremendous (win or no win Sunday).

This is sort of a dumb thesis from the writer. If anything, Belichick NOT getting a job is a sign of progress amongst NFL owners. I'm pleasantly surprised someone didn't fall for the fraudulent resume and either hand him the keys to the kingdom or believe his bull**** that he was happy just to come in & coach, which would have lasted until the end of the press conference, tops.

The Vrabel not getting a job thing b/c he's a hulking doofus is dumb, but only if true. No NFL insiders are worth trusting and Russini might just be carrying water for the Vrabel camp. And even if she's not, teams run by generally stupid and insecure men are are always going to make decisions for stupid and insecure reasons. That was the case in 1994 and it'll be the case if we're all still here in 2054.

He is, at the moment, one of two Super Bowl-winning coach with any sort of chance to win again with a new team. Which is sorta terrifying, but also comforting, b/c between he and Jerrah, they'll **** **** up six ways to Sunday again next year and however long they work together.

Doug Pederson: Jags really cratered down the stretch but he's still the likeliest coach to win a Super Bowl w/a second team, albeit by default.

Vrabel does have two years left on his contract ($19m total) and I don't know if there is off-set language in the deal or what - or if he doesn't mind the break. But I could think of reasons for most teams to pass. Atlanta (they just got rid of a Titans guy), New England (they were obligated to hire Mayo), Chargers (anyone other than Harbaugh wouldn't have been received well) - maybe even Vegas reluctant to hire another former Pats assistant - Carolina (they need an offensive guy to fix Young) - that leaves Seattle and Washington. I do wonder if GMs generally feel some bit of "intimidation" for lack of a better word dealing with a former HC who has had success, maybe also clashed with the front office (reportedly), particularly when they are a former player.
On a different note - I almost think Tepper HAD to fire Reich, if only to remove the constant reminder that Reich thought Stroud should be their pick. Though I do know there were plenty of people who felt Young was better throughout the league.
