My apologies, I couldn't find the running WNBA thread.

A friend texted me last night - his daughter plays high school basketball, and his wife was going around last week asking for donations for a silent auction. The Sparks donated ten tickets to tonight's game.

Tonight's game is the WNBA finals.

Apparently not a high demand.

Athletes

Seriously, lower the baskets to 9 feet, shorten the court to 75 feet, make the 3-point line 17'9.......and I still wouldn't watch.

Took the family to a game not too long ago. Good way to spend a few hours cheaply and without crowds of douchebags to deal with.

I'll gladly do it with my kids as many times as they want.

My friend says the tickets went wanting.

This is a silent auction for a high school girls basketball team.

Won tickets to a suite one time in Phoenix. It was an easy and kind of cool way to take the whole family to a game and get a suite experience. It wasn't really stocked or staffed like an NBA game would have been, but it was a nice chance to see what something like that was about with no cost to us!

I wonder if they wouldn't be better off scrapping the playoffs in favor of a three-day tournament. Take the best eight (or maybe six) teams and play single elimination at a different site each year.

I just went to wiki - the first season, the Finals were a one game championship, played on August 30.

My local team, the Mystics, is the only one in WNBA history to never reach the finals. LOL.

There is essentially no difference between the WNBA and your girls high school basketball team.

The first two games were fun to watch and the WNBA is ahead of other leagues with their reseeding in the playoffs, which allowed the two best teams to meet in the Finals. (I understand no one else cares so I'll just be over here alone with my Whalen Hutchinson High School throwback).

Totally understood that's a ha-ha exaggeration, and that's OK.

But let's be clear that plenty of star college players come to the WNBA and struggle. For women's basketball, it IS the pro level.

That said, I don't want one of the free tickets either.

Texting more with my friend, his wife said they offered her 40 tickets.

I think the NBA is looking at this as a test model for scrapping the current format and going to full-on, no-conference seeding soon.
