Also, when did Hurricane Sandy become Superstorm Sandy? If any hurricane deserved Superstorm it was Andrew or Katrina.

I believe they're calling it "Superstorm Sandy" because it was not a hurricane when it reached landfall [/WeatherChannelNerd]

Lot of Hurricanes become tropical storms when the make landfall. Still referred to as "Hurricane" something or other. Although I can guess why Sandy got promoted from Hurricane/Tropical Storm to Superstorm: it hit the New York area. They think anything that happens to them, good or bad, is on a higher level than anyone else.

If a blizzard deserves naming, it comes AFTER the fact - such at the Armistice Blizzard or the Halloween Blizzard of 1991.

Agreed. I recall as a kid seeing "I survived the Blizzard of '79" T-shirts.
