The anti-draft thread

Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

Cleaned the grill this morning. This could be its last summer, as rust rot is getting kind of critical on the gas vents. No matter.
Garden store this afternoon, followed by a little yard work, followed by steak, asparagus and Bordeaux.

For those of you who want a respite from a hyped-up exercise that boils down to someone reading names at a podium, have at it.

Talk about anything the mods will allow: your dog, your sex life, your dog's sex life, your sex life with your dog, anything but the NFL Draft.

I'll start. Has anyone noticed how big the new Lucky Charms boxes are? My wife bought 2 for $5 the other day and they were industrial-sized. When did this happen?

Where did you find industrial-size boxes of Lucky Charms, two for $5??????? I'll pay you $6 for 'em, because that's still a lot less than I have to pay for them here.

Anti-draft rally.... you mean like burning our draft cards and fighting with the cops and all that ****?

Oh, wait, that was 40 years ago

It was 94 degrees here Thursday afternoon.

I woke up this morning to snow on top of my car.

Worked out, did some free-lance work already this AM, two stories of the five are already in the bank. Hot chocolate and toast for brek-brek, and a can of cold Pepsi while writing.

I'll mow the lawn at noon, when it's dry, then have golf cart duty at Little League from 2:30-5 p.m. (radio is packed to listen to Microville Tech's game this afternoon). Micro Jr. has a game at 5:30 and then it's out for burgers and beers with the coach of the other team, who we know.

Won't watch a second of the draft and besides we already know the Lions have just wasted $72 million or whatever. (Like Spnited, those of us from that generation avoid the draft).

Nats' loss should be final about the time the draft begins.  That's when we'll take the dogs for a walk.
I had Life.
My dogs had Beneful (the older one) and IAMS Large Breed Puppy (the younger one).
I have ribs in the crock pot.
It's hot as hell already.

Ribs in the crock pot? Jesus. It's 80 degrees outside...fire up the grill!

All right, dammit ... THIS MEANS WAR!!!!1!!!!!!1!

Ribs DON'T go on the grill. They go in the smoker for several hours, with hickory wood providing the smoke and a good dry rub on the ribs before they go into the smoker.

And Moddy .... that's just inexcusable ... please tell me you're not one of those people who boils a rack of ribs before cooking as well ...

Buncha damned heathens around here ... it's a wonder any of them ever find out about good food ...

The girlcat woke me up purring as loudly as she possibly could at 11:30ish. The gym is calling is calling, and I'll eat bran flakes for breakfast (because I'm all healthy and ****) after I've had a couple pots of coffee.

Then I have to clean. I gots people coming to visit tomorrow.

Old timers boil them and swear by it -- but I do them the way you do because I think they taste better.

I started my day with sex...with my wife, not my dog.

Then, I discovered we were out of cereal, so I had to settle for a Nutri Grain bar. That was really a come down. I swore we had some Smacks packed away in the back of the cupboard. Seriously, a Nutri Grain bar? I felt so yuppy...like I should be eating it with a protein shake, with the Wall Street Journal tucked under my arm as I headed out to do pseudo-business with a client on the golf course.

Yep, I need to buy some Smacks.

Why don't they call them Sugar Smacks any more? I mean, there's still Sugar Crisp and Frosted Flakes, so what happened? Did the Sugar Nazis figure that Dig 'Em is just a frog, so he's an easier target than Sugar Bear and Tony the Tiger?

My cat has taken to his 3 a.m. Howl-and-Prowl constitutional around the apartment again, these days.

He and I would have words, could he hear them.

If you want a solid cereal that you can just count on, Raisin Bran. It's not flashy, kind of like a lineman from the Big 10 (sorry I slipped).

I had a Vicodin for breakfast because my shoulder is killing me; on his board, Mel Kiper had me taking a Tylenol 3. Psych!
