His wife comes forward and says he was arrested for assaulting her in December (the background check on the guy didn't turn up the arrest because of police snafu). Guy was recommended by N&0 publisher. Reporters want to follow up with assault info. Exec ed says, "Move along people, nothing to write here."

Funny ... the same people who want to light up Mike Krzyzewski and others - hold their feet to the fire, if you will - think they can make someone's criminal record simply disappear.

I shouldn't be surprised. Orage Quarles hasn't had the smoothest run in Raleigh, and this obviously doesn't help.

Well, it could be two things: "not true" could mean he wasn't arrested. Hope this is the case. If "not true" refers to sitting on the story... my bull**** meter is pegged. It's been a week. A week.
